The fertility clinic in our hospital is pretty poor, so much in fact that they no longer have a fertility specialist! When i spoke with the nurse the other day she said oh your next appointment may not be with a fertility doctor as we no longer have one at this hospital!!!!!

I am fuming, i think they have been so crap in helping me out so we have considered going private, and thats what we were hoping to do in the new year, however..... my sister works in a doctors surgery and she said 3 of their current patients have gone to spain for fertility treatment. SO i am looking into this now as a new option and just wondered if any of you guys have considered going abroad or know of someone that has?

Plus it gives me something to focus on as i am on my last clomid cycle and they wont prescribe me anymore so its down the IVF route which apparently has a 3 year waiting list for someone of my age!!!!!

You have to weigh up the price differences, the language issues, etc etc, for example, if private IVF in England costs roughly 4,000 you might get it for, say, 2,500 abroad, but you have to fly over frequently for your consultations and your meetings, not to mention having to pay for accommodation when you get there. You also have to deal with not knowing the language. You might find cheap treatment in Greece, but what if you don't speak Greek?

Check out https://myivfalternative.com/.

Also, check out this chat forum as it's all people who have gone to this clinic:

MissAma had a cycle of IVF in Spain I think. She might be able to answer some of your questions. But as CurlySue said, you'll need to weigh up the costs including flights and accommodation - you might be able to get some of the blood work done at home, but a private clinic might charge for the tests and then charge for the reports to be released. Don't forget about the additional stress that may also be involved in travelling abroad.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do

If your local fertility clinic is not great then you need to weigh up whether its worth spending the money and going somewhere that is. You need to give yourself the best chance and the quality of the clinic can make all the difference.

On the NHS, I am able to choose where I go after TTC for three years, then I get one go. Maybe because in my area there are no fertility clinics anyway. If your hospital doesn't have a fertility specialist then you will not be having IVF there surely??

It could be more stressfull going abroad but then on the other hand, if its nice and warm and you can relax by the beach, it could be less stressful than trying to fit it around the usual hectic work schedule. To put a positive spin on.

There is a really good one in Budapest too that people have talked about. I expect easyjet fly to Budapest from Luton. Most of these clinics try and really keep the time spent there to a minimum and are very used to treating Brits and Americans.

Can't link to the site as have not had 10 posts yet but its the Khaali Institute in Budapest.

Godd luck in finding the right clinic for you!
