My little girl is 6wks and I can't get her to go longer than 2/3hrs day or night. She only takes between 2 -3oz each feed and can't get her to take any more. The night shifts so tiring, I put her down to sleep after a feed and she's up within two hours for the next. Any ideas? X

hey hun what weight was your little girl at birth and how much does she weigh now? My lo is also 6 weeks and feeds every 3 hours and takes about 2-3oz a shot. at night i dreamfeed her at 10pm and that sees her through til 3/4am where she takes another 2-3oz. she was weighed at 16days old and was 10lb and i def think that the slightly bigger the baby the longer they are able to go until their next feed. it may just be a time thing for u and u should see improvement esp at night within the next few weeks x

Thank you. She was not to far off 8lbs born. She's been drinking more towards the 3oz each time today which is great. In the night each feed lasts between 10mins and 30mins (she'll take a bit, stop, doze, take a bit more...). So by the time she's done feeding its sometimes only 1hr 30 before the next! I really hope she will last a bit longer soon, its so hard staying awake in the day sometimes and napping when the baby does never works with a toddler about :dohh:

Thanks again xx

do you change her nappy before feeds? This always woke my baby up enough for him not to fall asleep while drinking

Hang in there. It's tiring, but that's normal and exactly how she should be eating at 6 weeks. They need milk little and often in the early weeks. I was BF at the time but my daughter was eating every 1-3 hours, with feeds lasting 45 minutes to 2 hours! Can you imagine a 2 hour long feed at 3am, with just an hour break in between the next one? It's exhausting. But it's how their bodies are designed to eat at that stage and it doesn't last forever, I promise! My daughter STTN (11pm to 7am) for the first time around 10 weeks or so. It will be easier soon.

I agree it sounds about right. My LO take 4-4.5oz every 3 hours. She was 9lbs at birth and 11lbs6oz at her one month check. She will go about 5 hours from her last bottle before bed till her first night bottle but that's her longest stretch so far. I know how tiring it can be with a toddler running g around as well. :hugs: just remember it will get better soon :)

Mine is doing this and is 9 weeks! I don't know how to make him eat more per bottle... he has never eaten 4 ounces at once before... he is 12 pounds...
