(ex breastfeeders ) Making the transition from breast to bottle

My lo has been combi fed from 2 weeks. He will take a bottle fine (eg - knows how to drink from it no problem) - but he prefers breastmilk to the point where he wont take all of his bottle and roots around for boob instead - which turns into screaming fits if I dont give in.


I am happy to give him a morning bf for now still and an evenin bf but I want it cut out in the day and I'm hoping some of you could let me know the best way forward??

He is on 4/5 bfs in the day and about 6oz worth of top ups, He has a 5oz bottle before bed around 9pm - he just wont drop his bfs in exchangle for the formula at other times.... Should I just let him learn that its bottle or nothing? But I cant stand him crying at me when I know all he wants is his booby milk - but I dont want to carry on as I am!

hi there. that's a tricky question as your lo obviously knows what he wants and isn't going to give in easily. i guess just persevere with it so he knows he won't get boob in the day. i havent had experience with this so not sure of best advice; i'm sure some ladies can help you here though. i only combi fed when i started to wean over to bottles and we're just on two feeds a night really. luckily my lo prefers bottles as she gets her milk straight away; she can get frustrated with my boob.

Is it possible for you to get someone else to give him his bottles during the day?

You smell far too yummily of milk and comfort for him to be distracted by a bottle if it is you who is giving it

I snuggle him right into my chest in the same position and popped the bottle into his mouth. It wasn't as bad if he was in the breast feeding position.
