Well, hubby and I decided to tell the kids last Thursday evening after their cross country meet. Our boys are 16, 15, and 12 (12-yo is non-verbal/autistic). Their reactions were quite sweet. The oldest teared up out of fear that his new sibling might have special needs; the middle child was thrilled and then said, "Oh, my, what if it's a GIRL?"; and our sweet autistic boy kept insisting we turn the music back on.
After answering a few questions, they all seemed quite smitten with the idea. So, we decided to have them call and play, "guess what?" with the grandparents. It was hilarious. I highly recommend having your children share the news with their grandparents.....grandparents are ALWAYS nicer to the grandchildren...hehe. They were equally elated.
So, we tell the kids that we want to wait until we visit the doctor on Tuesday before we share the news with everyone. They seemed to understand the plan. At least they said they understood :thumb up:.
They head to school Friday (I happen to be the high school librarian at their high school) and I didn't give a second thought that they'd need reminding not to tell. Well, by break that morning, I'm hearing squeals of, "Your mom's PREGNANT!!!"
So, although I have not officially "announced" yet, I feel like the whole community knows. We live in a very small town; I'm sure the texts about me have reached record numbers this weekend .
Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers this week....we have an ob appointment scheduled for Tuesday morning.....still very cautiously optimistic and thrilled.
Wishing you all a great week !
