Hello all. Yesterday I had a horribly debilitating day and wondered if anyone has gone through anything similar.

Basically, my boyfriend's mother has come to visit for 10 days. She got here Tuesday. She's from Utah and is a nurse specialising in babies. Anyway, I've only met her once before, and while she is a very very nice woman, she is INCREDIBLY hard work, as she won't make a decision to save her life, yet whenever we suggest anything, she umms and errs until my head hurts!

ANYWAY, yesterday she wanted to go around Windsor... see the sights, the castle, take a tour, etc. So we headed over there around 11 AM. We parked up and got to the castle and stood in the queue for tickets, and after about 5 minutes, I got a really sharp pain in my chest. It was a really bad shooting pain in my left breast, which went from the right side of the breast to the underneath of the breast to under my left armpit. I couldn't take a deep breath, and I seriously wondered for a few minutes if I was having a heart attack. After ten more minutes in the queue, I was doubled over in pain (a position which seemed to help alleviate it), and once we got outside, I told them I needed to sit, so we got on a bench to take a rest.

My boyfriend was concerned and wanted to take me to A&E, but I thought it might just be a muscle pain as my back was also in agony. So I said we should wait. After about 15 minutes, the pain subsided enough for me to carry on, though my back was still really hurting and I was having intermittent chest pains.

We took the (LONG) tour through the castle, and unfortunately there was nowhere to stop and rest the entire time. We were in there for more than 90 minutes, and not a single bench or chair was on offer until one of the very last rooms. I was crying by the end and once again doubled over in pain.

Anyway, I worked through it and we finished the tours (another couple hours) and then went to lunch. Sitting was helpful and the pain was less, but as soon as I stood up from the table, my eyes filled with tears and I could hardly breathe again. My boyfriend practically carried me back to the car. Once in the car, I couldn't move without severe pain, but I still didn't want to go to the doctor, as BF's mom seemed to be judging me, and I didn't want to give in (this is probably all in my head, but I just felt like she thought I was being a baby).

When we got home, I went straight to bed and laid down. If I was on my back, the pain was okay, and I could deal with it. On my left side, I couldn't feel it at all. But if I laid on my right side, I felt like someone was stabbing my left breast with a knitting needle!

I took a 15 minute nap and then got up and went downstairs to lay on the couch. After another half hour or so, the pain was so bad that I couldn't breathe OR move. I finally gave in and said to my BF that I needed to go to the hospital, as the pain wasn't normal.

Before we went, I needed to wee, so I went up to the bathroom and relieved my bladder. I also let out a tiny tiny little fart (sorry for TMI). Then, when I stood up, the pain was gone. It just vanished. There was no indication whatsoever that I had been in pain.

I went downstairs and told them that there was no need for hospital after all. I was fine. I spent the rest of the evening feeling fine, and had a decent night's sleep. Woke up today and still no pain.

The ONLY thing I can think is that I had a bit of trapped wind which came out in that tiny fart. But would trapped wind be THAT high up that I could only feel it in my breast??

I'm only 16 weeks, so my uterus is still low, so it seems strange that I could feel such terrible pain so high up. Any idea what might have happened??

I didnt want to read and run...

I have no experience myself but sure hope it doesnt happen again for you it sounds awful :hugs:

hmmm that sounds very strange? i dont think it was trapped wind, maybe it was a trapped nerve or something? and the position you were in to go to the loo untrapped the nerve? that's about all i can really think of. i have also have pains in my chest but i think they were nerves or muscle or growing pains. they never lasted too long though and just gone off on their own. i also thought i was having a heart attack when i first got the pain but it eased off by itself. i think it must have been a muscle or something.

it's happened to me twice and if it happens i'm gonna go to the doc's just to be sure. i didnt wanna go though and feel silly if it were growing pains where my boobs are getting bigger lol

if you're worried maybe just get checked out by ur doc anyway? x

Thanks Emzy. :) I first thought it was muscle or growing pains or something, but the fact that it just stopped on its own perplexed me. I was so worried the doc would just tell me I was crazy! Lol. I tend to agree that it may have been a trapped nerve or something. Whatever it was, I really don't want to go through it again! :(

I have chest pains like this and ended up in A&E with them. Didn't get told what it was at all so if you find out please let me know. All I got told my the doctor was that it's a panic attack (which was rubbish) and that I should have gone to Maternity rather than A&E as I was just clogging up other patients who needed to be seen......the waiting room was empty as was the ward.

Vyktoriah, it's funny you should say this! I have had this a couple of times when I very first wake up in the morning... it's not quite the same circumstances but the pain sounds the same. If I've been lying in a certain position for a long time in a deep sleep I wake up with a terrible pain in my stomach, up my back, under my chest and around my boobs. I woke up like it this morning and my stomach was so swollen my shirt didn't fit!!!! I've heard of popping suddenly but this was ridiculous.

It's VERY painful. But, if I get up and go to the loo, I often find I'm desperate for a wee (tmi) but don't realise it and I also have trapped wind, which doesn't stay trapped for long ...

After that my stomach deflated as if by magic and the pain relented after a few minutes.

I've deduced that it's a space issue - the baby and her attachments have to fit in that small space with all my organs, which fill up and go down depending on what time of the day it is, add on this a full bladder and bloating due to gas and it's all very cramped in there which causes pain - especially if bubs is forced into a strange position!

I'm not a doctor, but the whole "I went to the toilet and the pain went away" thing is sooooo familiar!!

Hope this helps :0

xx

hmmm that'll be interesting if it is a panic attack coz i've had 2 this year before i was pregnant but i was hyperventilating with those. so maybe it could be?? hmmm that is very odd. i've only had these pains twice and they've both been since i've been pregnant so i assumed it was something to do with the pregnancy. x

just found this, not sure if it helps but might explain the chest pains? https://pregnancypainrelief.com/Information/types-of-pregnancy-pains/chest-pain-during-pregnancy/ x

That's quite interesting. I don't think it was a panic attack for me either, but I WAS quite stressed dealing with bf's mom, so maybe it contributed?

That said, telling a pregnant woman with chest pains that she shouldn't have come to A&E is ridiculous! I can't believe they would say that. You poor thing. :(

Thanks for that, hon. If your pain is half as bad as mine, you have my full sympathy!!! Lol. The biggest thing that confused me is that when I let the trapped wind go, it was only the tiniest little puff that came out, but it seemed to fix everything! Lol. If it IS that, it is unbelievable that such a tiny little bubble could cause so much trouble!! :)

Oooh Emzy!! This bit:

"Anemia- if you are severely anemic this can cause chest pain. Other symptoms include fatigue, looking pale, shortness of breath, decreased color in your fingernails or in the lining underneath eyelids, fainting and heart palpitations. If you suspect you might be anemic, contact your doctor."

I've got extreme fatigue, big time shortness of breath and have been fainting at least once a day! I have just had my first blood work yesterday, so maybe that'll tell me something. Pre-pregnancy I was anemic for years and used to be on iron pills. So perhaps that's part of the problem. :)

Thanks for that!

yeah sounds like that could be the problem hun, especially with the other symptoms you've had and the fact that you have a history of it. hope you manage to get it sorted soon hun. x
