Hi,

I am currently 6 weeks pregnant and due to see the Midwife next week, however, i have the most excruciating cramp which lasts around 5 minutes then disappears for a few hours ... not only that but I have trapped wind which makes it 10 times worse .. oh my god.. the pain is horrendous when it starts. I have read that cramps are normal but for how long?? when do they stop and are they supposed to be this painful? I dont have any associated bleeding or discharge ... just on / off pain .. I really cant wait to see the midwife so she can put my mind at rest

I would call a nurse or whoever you could call to seek advice. You can always go to a ER to be seen and they will do a scan to see if baby is okay and a cervical check to make sure that it's closed. I live in the US and this is what they do here.

Trapped wind definately can be excrutiating so it is hard to distinguish what is actually causing the most pain.

The cramps themselves shouldn't really be pain as such, apart from twinges, my cramps have just been very dull and annoying.

Not sure what is safe to take for the trapped wind. Sure someone else can help.

If you are worried, go to A&E and they can scan you. Hope everything is ok. xx

I had this! God, I thought I was going to die the first time it happened - no exaggeration! It happened pretty much every night for 2weeks so in the end I went to the doctor. She suggested I cut cheese and bread (wheaty things)out of my diet and it worked like a treat! I haven't had any pain since and ALL my bloat disappeared about the same time too! I've had a few bits of bread here and there as I believe it was mainly the cheese causing the problem.xox

I meant to say, the doctor said Gaviscon is the best thing for trapped wind as it doesn't enter the bloodstream but stays in the stomach and where it's needed - so doesn't harm bubba. It doesn't matter whether you have the liquid or chewables.xox

Thankyou for your replies. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who is experiencing this. As the pain comes in waves, I will stick it out until Tuesday when I see the MW. If this pain was constant, I don't think I'd have a choice but to go to A&E it's that extreme!! Its been about a week now and I'm doing abdominal exercises, drinking lemon water, eating veg etc. Arghhhhhhh
