expressing tips?

I used a manual pump for the first time today and managed to get 3 and a half ounces, which I was really pleased with However, it took about 20 mins for me to get a let down and I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to encourage the let down? I only want to express occasionally if that makes any difference

I start with lots of little pumps. That seems to do it. Then you can do big slow ones once you've let down.

I only did that as my medela pump has a let down phase and that is lots of little quick pumps.
