extended bf-ers

Looks like no one has posted here in a bit but maybe someone is still around? Just looking for some advice to encourage extended breastfeeding and I can't find any advice anywhere! My twins are 13 months and were feeding like clockwork 4 times a day. The past week one of them is refusing all but the morning feed and the other isn't drinking much more. They've completely dropped their feed before bed! Any advice? Pretty sure we're teething, but that could go on for months!

That sound frustrating! I never had this problem but maybe someone else can help. Do you offer often? You can just nurse once it twice a day too that is what I do with my 2 year old :)

My little one is 15 months old and we nurse for two-three times per day. I found with teething she dropped some of her feedings, but she still needs it to calm down or when she needs reassurance. I know it's hard on you because it happened so suddenly, but it doesn't mean they will stop completely now. :hugs:

My son would stop for days whenever he had a cold around 16 months to 2 years. When he was older he would nurse less when sick. Over the years the amount he has been nursing has went up and down but he has not weaned yet.

Oh thanks guys you're giving me hope! I've been tandem feeding them on my bed since about 3 months, and haven't really offered them milk at other times---and they don't ask for it really. The past few days I've been trying to sit on the floor with them and offer them milk more often. Little boy has been refusing all the time, but my girl will sometimes have a little drink. Today was a little better and my boy had two good feeds (both times with his sister on the bed). Little sister fed two other times as well. I guess I should stop panicking but I had such a hard time getting him to breast feed when he was a newborn (he couldn't latch until about 4 weeks post partum) and I was hoping to keep feeding them until at least two. As long as she's still feeding I will probably keep producing milk? Thanks for the advice. When I google "extended breastfeeding" everything is about getting babies to stop feeding not make them continue!

I went 3 days without nursing when hospitalized once and was still making milk :) It does not go away within a few days. If your supply lowers some and your babys get fussy you can take fenugreek until your supply is back up too.

I wouldn't worry about milk supply at the point it is well established even if they skip a day here and there :) my son even continued nursing through my entire pregnancy even though i dried up really early

ive been feeding mine honestly for about 4 seconds on each side, just before bedtime. weve been doing this for months now I thought for sure the milk would be gone and its still there. she's just over 3yrs old
