Can i use extra virgin olive oil for my nearly 5 month old babys skin after he has a bath?
Thats what i have in a cupboard downstairs and cant find on google to say anything negative about it but just wondering what you think

I was advised to use it over baby oil by midwives and my health visitor. Anna had very dry, flaky skin a few weeks after her birth. It was obviously quite greasy and didn't smell great but it did the trick! I use it occasionally behind her ears when they get flaky or on any dry bits. I apply it using a cotton wool ball dipped in a little bit.

Thanks! I know my hv said olive oil but i didnt know about extra virgin oliver oil. Lo has a bit of dry skin on his forehead and stomach/thighs so will dab some of that on x

That and coconut oil is all LO's ever had on her skin. A tsp of olive oil in the bath is really nice :)

I would use bp grade olive oil from the chemist. much nicer, not so strong and not stinky at all:-)

I use olive oil on my lo skin too .... but the one you get from the chemist . it's the only thing I've used on his skin so far!

I used to use supermarket ones and really dislike that my baby smelled a bit like something I should be dipping bread in to. Then I discovered the one you get from the chemist (Samaritans brand, designed for the skin) and have been much happier with the way she smells. They've all been great for her dry skin though.

Yup my health visitor bought around a bottle of it, just a normal Asda branded bottle last time she came as she noticed little mans skin was dry and flaky. Seems to be doing the trick so far but weve still got a little way to go until its all gone.

My boy absolutely loves it as he gets a good massage whilst I apply it and then when I cuddle him after when he's dressed, he warms up and falls asleep!

I"ll be trying this. :) My LO gets dry skin on the back of her arms, hope this will help!

I was told that its not the best for babies' skin because it can go off easily at room temperature and it's pore clogging as well. It said this in the leaflets we got from the hospital too. I do use olive oil soap on the kids but not straight olive oil. When we were little my mum used the BP oil on scrapes and bruises but not as a general moisturiser. Coconut oil is better because its more stable and less greasy, any old coconut oil is fine it doesn't have to be the really expensive raw organic virgin stuff. My second eldest had severe eczema and coconut oil really cleared it up when steroid and specialist creams had failed, it's a natural anti-bacterial and anti-fungal too xx

I love coconut oil! I do use the extra virgin fancy stuff though ;-) I get discount at Holland and Barrett, so it's not to bad!
I massage him with it,.and put it in his baths, has the softest skin ever now, all dry patches gone :-D Also can be used on bums after nappy changes, and I use it on my hair as a deep conditioner sometimes.

There's nothing wrong with the fancy stuff but it doesn't have to be that type to experience the benefits. The virgin stuff can cost up to 10x more than the Bog standard stuff so that might put some people off without them realising the cheaper stuff is perfectly ok. Just one word of warning do not buy the coconut oil in a bottle it's virtually impossible to get out as it is solid at room temperature look for the stuff in a wide necked tub instead xx

Ive been using this now since yesterday and can already feel my babys skin getting softer! Thanks guys x
