Just curious if anyone has a had a similar experience??? I've been TTC for 10 months. Problem is I haven't had AF since I got off the pill last April. My old doctor gave me the progesterone challenge twice and nothing. He wanted to try a third month but I refused. My hormones have been tested 3 times and have always been within a normal range. With no other testing, my OB contacted his friend... the fertility specialist. Somehow they have came to the conclusion that I needed IVF!!!! Seriously, what the heck???? IVF??? I'm not a doctor by no means, but I'm thinking there needs to a whole heck of a lot more testing and trying before I go to extremes such as IVF. He also mentioned that we could try Clomid, but he didn't think it would do much for me since I didn't respond to the progesterone. Honestly, this freaked me out!!! I know that I'm having some issues, but I just figured it was a matter of more testing and hormones. When he said IVF, it was the first time I ever thought maybe this is much worse problem then I thought.

Since then, I just went to a new OB and she is putting me on premarin (estrogen) followed by progesterone to induce AF. She also, ordered and ultrasound. I'm hoping she is going to be able to help.

Any thoughts or words of encouragement????

Im not much help but hate that no one has answered you. Ive heard others mention provera to induce a period have they mentioned that? I am currently on clomid bc I quit ovulating but was still getting a regular period. It has helped me to ovulate and also my cycles were 25-35 days before and now are 30-31 so they are more regular. I actually have an appoinment with my dr tomorrow to see what the next step is.... Im hoping its not IVF but would do nearly anything to get pregnant. We have been ttc for 20 months and had 2 miscarriages in that time. Good luck to you!

Thanks for answering my post! I'm new on here, and it's just a good to know that there are others out there that care and can relate, becuz they are having difficulties of their own.

I did try provera, same as the progesterone challenge. I did it twice actually, and it didn't work. My doctor was really puzzled by this because it's very rare for it to not work. But my new doctor is trying estrogen, so we'll see what happens. I guess I just need to take it easy and not stress. One test at a time. Just really hard some days.

Thanks again!!! Sorry to here about your miscarriages. Good luck to you too!

hi can i just ask, wht is the progesterone challenge?

prob a completely different situation but i will tell you what i have had tested to get where i am now,

first of all i had blood tests which shown no ov, then came the scans, i had a couple over a couple of years, i was told i have borderline pcos, first time i was told all was healthy,
then i tried 3 rounds of clomid which did not make me ov, then came a hsg, which checked my tubes were clear, all were fine
then another 2 rounds of clomid on 150mg, which still didnt help
then i had a lap and ovarian drilling, which shown SEVERE pcos
after that i had another blood test to see if i had ov
now i have one more round of clomid to try
the drs told me i have until roughly june to concieve, if not by then i will have to go down the ivf route

all of this testing has taken approx 3 years alltogether

i cant see how they can come up with a conclusion like that in such a short amount of time, try and get a second opinion hun, sometimes drs need a kick up the ass to do things properly

Bumski-
Wow, you've been through a lot. I feel like I'm headed down a long road. The progesterone challenge is just when they give you progesterone to try and induce a period. It didn't work for me, so know I'm trying estrogen to induce my period. If this works, we need to figure out why I'm not producing estrogen. Thanks for your input!!

there is a girl on here who has to take progesterone after she ovs to try and help a pregnancy if she concieves, anyway, she was on about cd 60 and thought she had ov so she started on the progesterone, it turned out she hadnt but af didnt arrive, she then read on the internet that progesterone can actually induce ov and about 10 days after she started taking it she did actually ov.

just wanted to let you know incase it has had the same effect on you too :winkwink:

if you look in opk gallery her story is in there, her name is kelster.

it is strange that af is not coming for you, i thought estrogen helps the follicles mature, oh its all confusing, still learning

it is good you have gone to anew OB hun as the last dr seemed to diagnose you instantly, keep at whatever they suggest, but keep checking for ov (just incase)
