Hello all,

I have a lot of concern for my own future pregnancies because of my family's history. :nope: My family's history with pregnancy and birth is not good at all.

My grandmother had a placental abruption while pregnant with my mother, and as a result my mother was born at 30 weeks.

My mother had a complete placental abruption while pregnant with me, and I was born at 24 weeks weighing 1 lb 6 ounces. I was very lucky and despite being born so early and spending 4 months in the hospital after I was born, I have very minimal health issues.

My sister was born at 32 weeks with hydrocephalus. She had to have 8 brain surgeries before the age of 2 and has a shunt in her brain to drain fluid.

My aunt went into labor at 33 weeks, and unfortunately her baby girl ended up being stillborn.

My cousin recently had her first baby, and she went into labor at 36 weeks, but her baby girl has thrived and is doing so so well.

All of this just concerns me! I've talked to be OB/GYN in depth about it and she says that things like placental abruptions and hydrocephalus are not hereditary, so I shouldn't worry, but my family's history just says otherwise to me?

I'm most concerned about the placental abruptions.. just seems crazy to me that my grandmother and my mother both had issues with it. My mother almost died from blood loss when I was born. The doctors at the time did not think that she or I would survive, but thankfully we did.

Thoughts?

My family has a long history of premature labor. Even my female cousins and my sister had preterm babies. I on the other hand had to be induced as my son was quite comfy. My doctor also said there should be no link genetically.

I know it's scary to think that it could be a genetic thing but try not to stress. There is no reason why you should have any complications. And God forbid, if that does happen, it's a freak occurrence but you will be receiving the best possible care for you and your baby. Try to focus on the good and getting ready instead of worrying about something that has not yet (and may never) come to pass. <3

Thanks for the reassurance ladies ❤

Just hard not to worry I suppose! Must just be coincidence with my family then.. not sure.

It is so hard not to worry!! :hugs:

When I was pregnant with my son I felt like a ticking time bomb. I was really shocked when I hit full term.
