hi,

blake is nearly 4weeks old, he is now on sma wysoy due to projectilve vomiting sma gold. we have had issues with constipation since going on soya but that is also sorted.

anyway, he is taking 3oz every 2hrs during the day and for some reason going 4hrs at night! i have tried upping his feeds to 4oz in hope that he will go longer but this makes him sick. do i leave him at 3oz 2hrly or has anyone got ideas on how to get him to go longer? is it due to the fact he is awake loads during the day???

Brighton was doing the same thing. When I talked to my Dr she said that the feedings every 2 hours is something that you have to just do ya know?? You can really force him to eat more in hopes that he will have longer spans between meals. and i dont think it has anything to do with how long they are or not awake. i just switched Brightonto soy how did you solve the constipation problem?

IF i give him 4oz he is sick. so giving him more doesnt work.

as for the constipation its a combination of teaspoon pure orange juice in 4oz boiled water and lactulose solution prescribed by GP, bless him. BUT i would rather give him these for constipation on soya than change him/me/clean floor etc after every feed on sma gold!!!

Hey hun, I'm having a similar problem so will be watching this thread for any help too :hugs: how did you know that Blake should be on Soya? Poppy did projectile vomiting with SMA Gold too but was better on Cow & Gate 1 and the Dr put her on Gaviscon for reflux and although she still throws up it generally isn't projectile. I would love not to go through 1 or 2 muslin cloths per feed!!

i was cows milk/dairy product intolerant from birth to 5yrs and i was put on goats milk!!! i still cant drink much cows milk now as makes me sick (small amounts in tea/coffee/cereal and small glasses to drink i'm ok).

my eldest started off on sma gold and did the whole projectile vomit and diharea (sp) thing and docs said he was cows milk intolerant like me and they put him on sma wysoy. (like me e is ok with small amounts!)

middle son was put on wysoy from birth until 2.5yrs as a precaution (he is fine with cows milk).

hence when blake started the projectile i got a tin of wysoy from chemist. i saw a gp at surgery today (only a locum though) and he has agreed to wysoy for 3months but i need go see a permanant gp to get it long term.

i switched to soy because brighton was sooo colicky and i was talking to my dr and other mothers said try soy, even if she isnt illlergic to cows milk the soy will be mush easier on her than formula. and for ttcarmybrat maybe try similac rs (rs stands for rice and solids) my ped. said that its thicker so its not as likely to be spit up by babies that spit up alot of have reflux. that was going to be our next shot had the soy not work.
