I can not believe this: My mother was feeding Lily in a cafe today, and was told to move - ordinarily she would stand up for herself, she knows it was her right, but she was so shocked that she left the cafe!

I am so angry that this happened to her - it's not just my mother's right to feed that was infringed, but her baby's right to eat! Therefore, this Friday I will be asking all of my bfing friends at breastfeeding cafe to join me one day in going to this cafe, feeding our babies and REFUSING to move if they ask us to.

Anyone want to join us? It's at the Clacton Factory Shopping Village (Clacton-on-Sea, Essex).

Haven't got a day yet and won't until later this week as have yet to ask fellow feeders.

Anyone up for this? Seriously, the management has a lot to answer for and needs a kick up the bottom to realise they can't do this - apparently this wasn't a one of - My mother was told "I hope you aren't offended - we get a lot of young women in here wanting to feed but it's just not our policy to allow it - it offends the other customers." Pfft!

I have my speech all ready for when they ask me to leave, and I am going to order a load of shirts from here first. Anyone else up for this?

Not their policy to allow it?! I can't believe that! Or that they could be so clueless about the law! If I was any closer I'd definitely join you! That is awful x

I wish i could come hun!!

We have just been discussing this in another thread!!! Its disgusting!! And a cafe as well.... not like it was a 5 star restaurant or anything!!!

:hissy:

You go for it Tasha!
We had a similar incident in a popular restaurant in our town and we put an article in the local papers about it!

It's outrageous that they can do it, but watch you don't get arrested and charged for it - I had no idea they could ask you to leave until I found this a minute ago:

'Currently women can face charges under public order or indecency laws'

I don't think they are going to arrest a whole cafe full of breastfeeding women? Especially if we invite the press to meet us there ;)

Ive just gone on my police forum and asked the question about breastfeeding in public and I also asked the officers there opinions and what they would do in a situation like this!!!

Will let you know when I get some feedback!!

That sounds like a good plan!! Wouldn't stop me from meeting you there if it was any closer (just looked on AA and it's 2 hours 36 minutes from here though...and Sam gets grumpy after 5 minutes in the car in this heat!)

Just didn't want to read about a cafe-load of breastfeeding women being locked up on the BBC website

Love those t-shirts too! :D Might make myself one with that on the back x

That wouldn't be very good publicity for the cafe would it! Especially with the new protective legal guidelines coming in this year. You just know it would cause uproar, and someone would end up being sued for discrimination!

Go for it!! It makes my blood boil. A young woman actually got spat on, close to where i live, just because she was breastfeeding in public. Disgusting!!

So true...wonder what arguments they'll try to come up with this time. Making customers feel uncomfortable...ffs - I'm sure he made your mum feel more than uncomfortable.

Why do I have to be so far away??!! So desperately want to join you! x

OMG that's shocking!! I would have flipped out if that happened to me! :gun:

And these people say that breastfeeding is unhygenic - spitting on another person has to be one of the LOWEST and most unhygenic, disgusting thing you could possibly do! Sickening.

Where abouts are you living? Jump on a train! Anna can't stand car journeys much, especially in the heat - but we went to Wales by train this weekend and she loved it! We even went first class and nobody would have known there was a baby there - she just looked out the window the whole way (with the occasional public feed of course ;)) lol

im so annoyed ur mum got asked to stop bfing but its to far for me and i have no money for train XX

i would have been there otherwise i think its bang out of order it a babys right to eat and my right to feed mybaby how i wish and no one will tell me how and when to feed my baby and dont have my breasts hanging out and im very discreet let them mess with me xx

Argh that makes me so mad to hear about your mum, I really do not understand some peoples opinions about breastfeeding, its infuriating! Im too far to come, but good luck!

ohhhhh...hmmm..I've always wanted to visit the UK- and what a worthy cause. If only I wasn't worried about going into labor while there  But you have GOT to keep us updated on how it goes and send a pic of the feed in if you can. How exciting!!

Oh I'm half a world away otherwise I would definitely join you! Those b******s need to be put in their place! Good luck Tasha make sure to update.:hugs:
