My 4 week old premature baby is feeding every 3-4 hours throughout the day and night which Neonatal say is perfect. He generally feeds for 20-25 minutes at each feed. However, things seem to go a bit strange at night and he is awake for over 2 hours in a constant cycle of feeding, getting wind, being winded and feeding again. I don't know what is causing this as he is fine in the day. By the time we have finished over the course of the 2 hours he has probably fed for at least 40 minutes. He sleeps most of the day and I wondered if this might be the reason. Any advice anyone? It gets really tiring at night and I wondered if there was anyway we could persuade him to switch to long feeds in the day?

He is cluster feeding, and it is very common. My son used to do it from about 6pm to 10pm, but it didn't last too long. Basically they are trying to fill up before sleeping. A newborn's tummy is tiny, and breastmilk breaks down after about 2 hours.
