Should an 11 week old have a feeding routine or still just feed on demand?

I still feed on demand with maisie, when she wants it she'll have it, i suppose day to day there is kind of a routine, but some days she'll feed all day and sleep through the night, others she wont take too much but be up however many times in the night to feed.

I dont know if by this age they should have a feeding routine or whether their still classed as young so need feeding on demand..

Im sure my HV said by 3months ish they should be settling into a routine.

Josh slips in and out of a routine but its working for us so far.

ive fed my LO every 3 hrs since he was a few weeks old

I have a strict routine and Archie is now sleeping through the night at 8 weeks old. I can't handle feeding on demand but thats only me, everyone is different.

Good luck!

Do you have a strict time then for each feed? Say 3pm,6pm,last feed 9pm ect ect ect?

How do you go about doing it? What happens if at one feed he only takes 1 oz, then is hungry again an hour later but your routine says he shouldnt have one for another 2 hours?

Findlay is 11 weeks old (6 weeks corrected) and like Archie Findlay has a strict routine as I couldn't cope with demand feeding.

Findlay is fed at 7am, 10.30am, 2.30pm, half a feed at 5pm before his bath, half a feed at 6.15pm after his bath, 10.30pm and we give him a feed in the middle of the night purely because he needs to put some more weight on but he is fast asleep during this feed bless him as he has always been a good sleeper.

When we are travelling on long journeys from NE Scotland down to my Mum's in Dorset we try and stop at the services closest to his scheduled feed time to keep him on track.

Well ive fed at set times from only a couple of weeks old and Jessica has slept through since 3 wks old. Basically, i just started trying to feed her every 3.5 hrs and used this as a baseline, if she wasnt taking much then i left it till 4 hrs and if she was draining then i would bring it down to every 3 hrs unil i found the right length of time between. Obv this changes as she grows but now its pretty much 7oz every 3.5-4hrs and u waste alot less milk too. Dont see how it does any harm and i felt i wasted so much milk doing demand. Kx

zane didnt have a set routine till he was 5 months i waited till he made his own routine up and i fed by demand but sayin that he did feed mainly every 3 hours so i had some idea of when to have the next bottle ready but it would change due to growing pains and teething.

i wouldnt worry about a routine right now as long as ur coping and u have a hint of when she wants a bottle ule be fine.

i always think of it like this....id hate to be told when i was hungery and when i wasnt so i wont push a routine if baby hasnt made it themselves, ive always listend to zane n what he wants n he sticks to his routine apart from when hes ill

I've always fed Chloe every 4 hours as she's only on 4 bottles a day and she sleeps between 10-12 hours and has been sleeping through since the first couple of weeks! ONly rule i have is last bottle no later then 9pm!!

I tried feeding on demand but found that Chloe would go up to 6hours without a feed and that worried me. She's on 4 x 7oz atm but doesn't always have the full bottle.

What bottles is your LO taking atm and have you tried feeding her every 3/4 hours?

Why do you not feed after 9pm?

We have our last feed at about half 9/10 as Olivia sleeps until about 7/8o'clock and i feel bad leaving her so long! lol

Just curious!

To stretch out her feeds i also give her a few mouthfulls of water just to keep her hidrated and it just helps that little bit longer - she usually goes about 4 hours between each feed and is doing 7-8oz but only 4 feeds in a day?!?!

I just stopped giving her bottles after 9pm coz she usually goes up to bed an hour after her last feed and sleeps till 9am so i'd rahter she got up then instead of getting up any later. Would love her to have earlier bottles but she seems to like it this way.
