So this morning i made porriage oats with sliced bannanas in it.

First question...when i went to sainsburys they had so many different packs...there didnt seem to be any major difference in any of them...are they all the same? Just different brands?

Also i followed the instructions at the back, i just made it as though i was making it for one person...however obviously he didnt eat it all, when you make them how much oats and milk do you put in? Hate wasting food!

What other toppings can i add to porriage? xx

my nearest supermarket is sainsbury's and when i bought oats for the first time i also noticed that they had loads of brands and different prices. when you compare the nutritional contents, they are all nearly the same so i went for the sainsbury's own brand oats (not the value ones. those have slightly less nutrition)

i dont have exact measurements but when cooking for me and the LO i always have one part milk/one part water and usually about 3 quaters of a mug oats and a teaspoon of sugar (making sure theres about twice as much water/milk than there is oats). i then bring to boil and let it boil for about 2/3minutes, cover and simmer for a anywhere upto 5mins.

TBH untill recently theyve tasted and looked different everytime i made them

I'm not sure about quantities for oats perhaps half of what they suggest would be enough for a LO.

Lewis has readybrek once a week and I add grated apple (very fine so it's almost like apple puree) and cinamon which he seems to love.

I make up an adult serving of porridge oats & then refridgerate the rest. To speed up the cooking time, soak the oats in the milk overnight.

Cooked porridge keeps in the fridge for a few days & I simply warm it up on the hob & add a bit of extra milk if necessary.

Flannigans (yellow packet) oats are the tastiest - lovely creamy taste.

I didnt know porriage could be kept in the fridge...if that was the case i should have saved some when i made it this morning :dohh: xx

I don't know about the diff packets as ours our different. But I just buy quick or rolled oats in bulk, no flavor, and then spice it up myself. Sometimes I use milk and I use half the amount of oats to liquid. Some of the boys favorite is apple juice with oats then I add a bit of cinnamon. Sometimes I'll saute apples and chop those up and put them in too. I try all diff flavor juices and then mix in the fresh fruit, dried fruit and some spices.

So you cook the oats in apple juice? I've never heard of that before, sounds yummy!

Yeah just instead of milk I'll use apple juice, I've used mixed berry juice then added some strawberries.

M&S sell ready made porridge, so thats where I got the idea from.

We use Co-ops own instant porridge, it's ace! Three heaped table spoons of oats, pour on heated milk until as thick or otherwise as you want it, and it's ready. We add lots of chopped strawberries. Byron's been having it since about 7 months, he loves it.
