hey guys im feeling a bit of a failure with trying to get ryan to eat at the moment and its really worrying me and getting me down as i just want to make sure he gets all the good stuff and eats a good enough amount.

When i started weaning i went for the TW route as i was just so scared of choking etc with the BLW but now hes 1 i feel im ready for the route for him feeding himself as he doesnt want me to feed him anymore.

so last week ive decided to stop all jars and form of mushy food and go for BLW so for example today his meals went

breakfast rice crispies which is fine for the first few spoonfuls then he wants the spoon and completely refuses to eat from me so i give him the spoon but he trys to eat with it but picking nothing up

lunch was a dairly cheese sandwich he had 2 bites and refused anymore and the same with his yogurt wants to feed himself so refuses from me.

dinner was fish fingers and wedges and some mixed veg which he ate a couple of bites from the fish fingers and didnt even look at the wedges and veg and threw overboard :(

this has been happening pretty much since the start of BLW can anyone help me with a way forward as no matter what he doesnt seem interested in eating at all with anything im putting down for him he was always such a good eater with TW but he has became so fussy and its really getting to me as i worry so much xx

Aah, just seen your ticker! Happy birthday ryan!

I just wondered what his milk intake is like? Does he drink any before a meal? Wondering because my lo won't really show interest in food until about 2 hours after a bottle. Do you have a rough feeding routine you could post? :flower:

Thanks for replying xx

He only has 2 8oz bottles his routine is like this

8am up and breakfast usually cereal

8:30 8oz

12:45 I try to give him lunch so today was a sandwich but no was thrown to the floor and I know he likes it as he has ate mine before happily he also gets juice and today I offered apples which he had a play around with then thrown

Around 2:30 he gets a snack usually a biscuit and juice

5:30 I offer him dinner which was fish fingers and wedges and veg he picked up a few fish fingers to eat the rest thrown away

8pm 8oz for bed

I really want to be on the blw but Ryan just doesn't want to eat anything and basically wants out his high chair everything is thrown and he just crys to get out I just want to know he is getting enough at the moment I'm just dreading meal times as it's just becoming a battle

Awe thanks can't believe he is 1 already xx

I have no idea about 1year olds  but that sounds like a similar amount of formula to my lo at 6 mths (she has 18oz most days). Would you be willing to try cutting his bottles further and offer some formula and then just water? Maybe he's getting enough with a few bits plus the 16oz you're giving him?

I don't know other than that hun :flower: I suppose some kids have a bigger appetite than others but I don't think that's much comfort to you right now :hugs:

Thanks again for the reply xx

He isn't ready to drop a bottle yet but I'm working on putting his morning one into a beaker instead.

He just won't eat like blw with his hands at a meal but if I give him a little cow and gate steam dish he will eat it or a jar if I put food infront of him he doesn't even look at it it gets thrown straight to the floor :( I don't know what else to try cos I don't want him to starve he is a big boy for his age and o know he can eat loads when it's jars but I want away from them and to be blw and it's proving very difficult lol xxx

Ah I see! How about putting his favourite purees on the end of breadsticks, on ricecakes, in sandwiches etc so it's a familiar taste with his finger foods? :flower:

How about pre-loading his spoon for him and give him his spoon to feed himself his mashed up food. Then offer a finger food aswell for him to get used to it x

thanks for the reply guys xxx

well today for lunch i made a mini baguette cut it in half and made 2 mini pizzas which he ate on his own happily which i was proud of him for so i suppose its trying to give him things he likes but i offered a sandwich yesterday which was thrown away still the same with any veg he picks it up looks in disgust and throws it lol

i really need some lunch and dinner ideas to try with him as what ive offered just doesnt go down well i really want him to eat fruit and veg but they are a no go and get threw away

sarah xx
