Feeling alone - gross motor delay

My baby is just about to turn one in a couple of days. He isn't crawling or walking and I know that, in general, this is nothing to worry about. Some babies never crawl and health professionals don't worry until after 18 months if baby isn't walking.

But my baby is different. He only rolls from tummy to back (and only on one side), he won't pull to stand or attempt to cruise furniture or take any steps when you support him. He can sit, but can't get himself from lying down into a sitting position and, although he can stand, he doesn't seem keen to bear weight on bended knee or on his hands. I went to the doctor today and he's seeking further advice, but I just feel so alone and I'm so worried. Does anyone have any similar stories and what happened with you?

No advice, but *hugs* I hope the doctor can help you find answers.

My girlfriends DD didnt crawl until after 1. She is now nearly 3 and up and running everywhere.

Is he a big boy? Heavier babies often take longer to get going.

Most babies have a rolling preference. Mine prefers to roll to the left, and always has done, though she can roll the other way if she absolutely has to. She's a normal 19 month old - walks, runs, talks.

Have you noticed any signs of limb weakness on the less-preferred side? If not, then I wouldn't worry too much about his rolling preference.

How are his fine motor skills, or speech? Kids who are more focused on verbal or fine motor activities can be a little later to learn the big movement skills, simply because they can't excel at everything all at once.

Do get back to us. Sorry you are struggling - it is awful when you feel something is wrong with your child.
