Feeling of something inside me

Hi ladies.
When I lie or sit in certain positions, it feels as if there is something inside my vagina. I went to the hospital today concerned about cervical incompetence and they gave me an abdominal scan only and said that the pregnancy looks to be nice and high up and is not resting on my cervix or anything. So what the hell is this feeling?! I'm still really worried about it even following the scan, because it just feels like something's about to fall out of me! Has anyone else had this? I'm 15 weeks tomorrow.

Check into prolapse. It won't affect the pregnancy, but I have one, and it feels like something is going to fall out of my vagina when it acts up.

Thank you, that does sound interesting because the feeling is lower down than my cervix (unless it IS my cervix). How would I know if I had one? Wish I'd asked for an internal exam now but they weren't that keen to help me out really.

Hard to judge purely off what you have written, but my thoughts were definitely that it sounds like a prolapse - especially since this appears to be your second pregnancy. Many women have mild prolapses after having a baby and don't actually realise until much later on.
I only realised I had one when my son was about 10 months old, and I did an "internal" after feeling an odd-ish sensation down there. I did it whilst standing up, as when laying down a prolapse will tend to fall back and not be as obvious (which is why they are often not picked up at pap smears etc). I knew that pre-pregnancy my cervix was super high up and I could barely reach it (I used to try as we had a long road of TTCing and some people check to see if their cervix is opened/soft around ovulation), and after having my son, it was sitting super low... maybe 2cm away from my opening. I could also physically push it up with my finger.
Most the time I never really noticed it or was bothered by it - it was only when I was on my feet a lot that I would feel the odd sensation down there, which they say is typical with a prolapse.
Now I am pregnant with my second and I def feel that odd sensation down there more frequently, and especially when on my feet for long periods.
I did have my prolapse confirmed officially by a specialist before getting pregnant again, and they have said it's not an issue for pregnancy, and that when you reach about 16 weeks, the uterus should start to pop up out of the pelvis and will actually ease the strain on the prolapse. It then shouldn't be bothersome again until 30+ weeks and getting close to the end.

If it continues to bother you, I'd get checked out by an actual prolapse specialist, as chances are the midwives/obyn's may not know what they're looking for. I know I have had to tell my hospital about my prolapse because none of them have picked it up themselves.

I wouldn't worry about a prolapse during pregnancy. As your uterus lifts up, the pressure will be taken off, and the prolapse (if that's what you've got) will most likely improve for the remainder of the pregnancy. (Reading what PP has said, and I'm agreeing with that part). I'm currently overdue and haven't had ANY prolapse symptoms since 16'weeks along. Even now that my baby is extremely low and very heavy. When I'm postpartum, that's when my prolapse is the worst, probably from the pressure of delivery. However, last time, it got better when my baby was 5 months old. I do lots of pelvic floor exercises. I don't wish to have surgery.

To keep it from getting worse, do pelvic floor exercises. Look up prolapse exercises. There are many more than just kegels. Also, do not push! Try to keep from getting constipated because when you have to push hard to poop, you're aggravating that prolapse.

All of this being said, this is just my experience. I'm not a dr. But I would not trust a hospital to diagnose my prolapse. I was able to diagnose my own using my symptoms and lots of research, and then I had a second opinion by a dr. I just think we know our bodies better than anyone else, and it is definitely safe to google prolapse during pregnancy because it will NOT hurt your pregnancy.

Thank you both SO much for all the tons of information! I'm about to go away on holiday for 9 days but I'm seeing my doctor about the possibility of this when I get back! I'd never even heard of it so you've been a huge help <3
