I was at my heaviest and most sedentary when I got pregnant, I had actually just started exercising again when I got pregnant and almost immediately got severe morning sickness. I'm currently 15 weeks and I have hyperemesis. I'm not on bed rest but I'm on IV's for 8+ hours everyday and I have NO energy from the hyperemesis. It's gotten to the point that simple tasks like emptying the dishwasher or giving myself a sponge bath take hours to recover from. Until I can get this dizziness and vomiting under control, even low impact exercise like walking is out of the question. I'm about 195 pounds, gestational diabetes runs in my family, all I've been able to eat are white bread, Gatorade, Popsicles, etc., and before getting pregnant I had a slightly elevated fasting blood glucose level. I'm praying I won't get GD, and my doctor is going to test me for it early.
Here's the thing. For two months, I've been having to take it day by day. If white bread is all I can eat, then it need to eat white bread. If I can't even vacuum one room without vomiting and collapsing on a couch to catch my breath for 2 hours after, I can't exactly jump into an exercise program. At the same time, before this year, I've always been relatively healthy and ranging from fit to at least more fit than I am now.
Like I'm sure we all do, I want to be a fit and healthy super mom when it comes time to deliver. After decades of viewing weight as a vanity issue and exercise as a way to look better, for the first time I'm getting scared about my physical condition. If I can't walk halfway around the block, how will I have the strength and endurance to push????
Anyone have any tips about safely improving your health while pregnant, especially with hyperemesis? Anyone with hyperemesis go on to recover and get stronger before labor? I could use some inspiration!
