Hi Girls im looking for some advice. Been seeing my FS for a few months now and she is great. DH and i have had some tests done and so far everything is looking good (bloods, scan, SA etc). I have had regular 28/29 day cycles for the past year. I have my HSG on Friday which i am nervous about, i am hoping everything is fine with this also.

My question is my FS wants to start me on fertiliy drugs in April and im confused as to what is going to help me. I hope i dont sound stupid but the drugs i have heard about seem to help with OV, regulating cycles etc and i dont need help with this. So what do you think they will do for me?

Really appreciate any advice. Thanks Chloe x

Hey Chloe,

She is probably referring to Clomid, which is indeed an ovulation drug. She could also prescribe Progesterone which builds up your lining to give the egg a comfortable place to sit.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think Clomid has a chance to not only make you ovulate but also improves the maturity of the egg being released. I think this is the reason they sometimes prescribe it even if you ovulate on your own. I could be wrong, and hopefully someone can correct me if I am.

:hugs:

nathyrra is right....i have been put on clomid even though i ovulated fine with out it.....i have polycysts on my only only so she suggessted clomid which i was happy about....currently on my 3rd cycle.

good luck for the hycosy....i had it done last sept b4 they would give me clomid and it really is nothing to worry about :) xx

I am suprised she hasnt done a timed cycle first. They watch your follicules and then trigger the ovulation and then measure your progesterone levels for the rest of the cycle...............maybe get a 2nd opinion. Also she needs to do a post coital test (done during this above cycle) to see whether the sperm are surviving in you.............then you can make decisions. Gotta eliminate issues first before starting medications like clomid etc. as they carry other issues which could make your specific issue worse. Maybe a 2nd opinion first?

Thank you so much for your replies i really appreciate it :flower: I feel a bit better about the HSG cause i have been worried about it. Just keen to get it over with now!

Im still hoping that i may not need to start theses drugs in April  Im sure the FS will carry out neccessary tests first i have a few more appointments with her so i am confident she will discuss this. If not i will definately be asking.

Thanks again girls. Any more advice would be great x

I'm hoping that i am going to be prescribed clomid tomorrow, i too ovulate by myself and all of my other tests have all been fine, hubby's swimmers are also fine. We haven't had any cycle monitoring, i don't think everywhere does that.
good luck
xx

Hi Alchemist- where are you from? I ask because the tests you mentioned are not usually done in the UK as routine. Basic HSG, basic bloods and SA- that's it and then clomid. We don't get the investigations that other countries get that have to pay for their tx.
