Did you know that there are 4 ovulation detection settings on fertility friend and depending on which one you have selected, you get a different ovulation date??

  • Advanced (Recommended)
  • Fertility Awareness
  • Research
  • OPK/Monitor/OVWatch

It defaults to Advanced... but if like mine your OPK's and your temperatures don't quite tie in, it can differ dramatically if you chance this setting to OPK/Monitor/OVWatch!!

With Advanced I am currently on 12dpo with a pregnancy score of 54 points... if I change to OPK/Monitor/OV Watch it says Im 9dpo with a pregnancy score of 62 points...

Could it be that the reason I am BFN today is because I am acutally 9dpo and therefore its too early?? I am not getting my hopes up as I know I got ovulation pains on the Saturday and my temps were low etc but surely its a possibility?

Or maybe im just in denial and refuse to believe that I could be BFN!!

Does yours change dramatically if you do this?? xxx

:dust:

Maybe this would explain the pain I got:

18. My OPK results don't align with my ovulation pain. Is the OPK wrong?

The official medical word for "ovulation pain" is "mittelschmerz," which is the official German name for "I am a jelly donut." Wait, I'm confusing my German phrases. Actually, "mittelschmerz" means, literally "pain in the middle." If you are like me, you grew up hearing "Ow, I'm ovulating" from big sisters or girls at school. Much as I love my sisters, they really didn't know what they were talking about. Who am I kidding? All little sisters love announcing a revelation like that ;)

Most women don't really feel themselves ovulate. ("I do!" you're exclaiming.) Probably not. ("But look at my chart! It only happens around ovulation!") Yup, happens to me too . . . and it may be occurring the exact moment of ovulation. But in fact, studies on mittelschmerz have shown that a woman is just as likely to have these pains days before ovulation (when the egg follicle is growing, or a build-up of mucus in the Fallopian tubes getting ready for ovulation) or after ovulation (the egg bursts out of its follicle with some force-- sometimes women will experience spotting or moderate bleeding at this time.) Yes, you may actually feel the egg burst out of its follicle at the moment of ovulation-- but you could just as well be feeling the pre- or post-ovulatory effects. Or that burrito.

Therefore, if your "ovulation pain" doesn't seem to jibe with the timing of your OPK, go with your OPK-- the presence of the hormone in your urine is a much better detector of ovulation than trying to make sense of twinges or tingles in your abdomen.

For what it's worth, feeling or not feeling "ovulation pain"/mittelschmerz isn't important; some women feel it, some don't, some feel it only sometimes, some are in major pain (up to and including emergency room visits suspecting appendicitis), some are "Hmm, I felt a little twinge." All are variations on normal, and don't mean you are more or less fertile or anything like that.

What I am trying to get my head around is that normally your temperature rises after ovulation... this would match fertility friends prediction but does not match my positive OPK's!

Looking at your chart it looks like you ovd on CD13 and that does match with your positive OPKs. In my experience ovulation normally happens the day of or the day after your first positive OPK....which is why the manufacturers say to stop testing after the first positive. That would make you 12dpo and that is possible still to early for a bfp.
Try not stress yourself out too much about it because that really won't help (take my advice, I am not using it as they say )
Hope you get your bfp soon. x

Thanks hun... I got so confused by it all this morning and it didn't help I was upset from the BFN... Ive been swimming and chatted to my BF and feel lots better now!! xxx

This is probably one of the reasons FF says not to test until you are at 18dpo and why I dont test until at least the day AF is supposed to arrive, if not after. You can really drive yourself nuts trying to piece everything together

Yeah... I definitely don't think you're only 9dpo. The temp shift is way more important than the OPKs. I wouldn't ever recommend changing it to OPK detection settings... but that's just me! BFN at 12dpo isn't so bad... I promise! You're still in with a good chance!

TBH I can see how its getting two O days even if you take out the +opks. You havnt got a lot of temps pre O, which could be giving you an unreliable coverline, perhaps if you had have more temps in there before O day it may have well put it in at cd16 as well, bringing up your coverline, not to mention there is an open circle one just after ff's O day, it may have made all the difference as well if taken at the correct time, the ones before that are open circle again could have made a difference to the coverline. Sorry just picked your charts to bits basically!:haha: But I agree you may not be 12dpo, you could only be 9dpo so hang in there hun!:hugs: Edited to say if I had to say which day I would favour O day more on cd16 so please update so we can see what happened! :hugs:

Thanks for all your comments... I really got confused yesterday but then realised we BD'd all over that time period so it shouldnt make a huge difference either way.

If I go by when I think AF is due... i.e. 28 day cycle and 14 day luteal phase then FF's prediction would be right... I don't think anyone should 100% rely on Fertility Friend and make sure they BD alot around that time, after as well as before just in case!! Especially those who don't have OPK's.

The reasons for the circles instead of the dots are that on those days, I had a naughty lay in and didn't get up to take my temperature until 9.30am when normally (on work days) I get up at 6.45.

I have since been setting my alarm for 6.45 and temping regardless as I only have to switch the light on for 5 seconds to see what the result is and then can go back to sleep on weekends!

That is another point to make to any new charters, it just proves how important taking your temperature at the same time every day is!!

Good catch, WannaB! I didn't notice the open circle! That could make a TON of difference! Hmm... Now I'm confused too! LOL

I have come to the following conculsion based on your comments and the times of my temperatures:

I think had I of taken my temperature at the same time as every other day on CD14 it would have been lower like CD13... This would then mean that my temperatures and my OPKs would tie in. This would also mean that I could have ovulated on CD14 which would be quite fine as we had BD'ing the day before and the day after which would increase our chances.

I have adjusted Fertility Friend to show this - If it is wrong ive got nothing to loose... at least I am temping properly now. I also like this option as it means that all my previous pregnancy tests could have been taken too early to detect anything... Hmmm we will see!

Well my "Early Pregnancy Signs" Score is now 64.... and I now have solid red lines rather than dashed ones... So that must be better right?

EDIT: This also ties in with my AF due date - I have always been due on a Wednesday before and FF was predicting Tuesday as per my old OV date... so this seems more accurate overall right? xx

Well my temperature has now gone back down again... but I wonder if this has something to do with the fact that I had a really restless nights sleep and woke up about 3 times between 4am and the alarm going off at 6am

They recommend at least 3 solid hours sleep before taking your temperature :dohh:

I am having a similar thing with FF. This is the first month I have used the VIP membership and taken my temps. My fertile period and OV date has moved three times now the last being this morning when it moved my OV back by 1 day :growlmad:

I haven't got enough data in there yet to get a pregancy score. It says that my rating for intercourse timing is high so thats good. How long did it take for you to start getting a pregnancy score come up?

Sorry for the late reply, I have been so busy in work just recently by the time I get home I barely have any energy to do anything apart from watch TV and go to bed so not had much chance to get on here!

As for the Pregnancy Score, I believe this comes up as soon as it has pin pointed ovulation. Good luck for your Valentines baby xxx
