Can you go in an have fertility testing for him and her?

DH and I would like to go in and both get tested to make sure we are a couple who conceive on their own. We have been sort of trying since August (1 month testing fate after BC stopped, 2 months withdrawal, now another 3 months full TTC).

My grandmother told me when I was younger that I couldn't have a baby, but I've never spoken to doctors about it as no need to, and I don't know what I believe.

We'd also like DH sperm tested to make sure they're healthy and active. We don't want to do this TTC thing for a year or more, wasting $ on products and tests to find out that we couldn't even do it anyhow.

Can you go in and just pay for fertility tests to make sure?

I'm fairly certain you can just go private with fertility tests! For your OH it will just be a sperm test, for you they'll want to run some blood tests, and depending on your results go from there. Sometimes a HSG is requested to check if your tubes are blocked etc, but the first thing they'll likely do is check you ovulate.

Hi there - I don't have much advice about what's normal in WA with regards to fertility testing, I know that in the UK your GP will generally refer you both for testing if you've been trying for a certain number of months, or you can just pay and go privately. But I just wanted to say that in my experience having doubts about whether 'it' can happen may be a real barrier to you conceiving, so unless your Grandmother was some kind of fertility expert, I tryt not to take to heart what she said to you as if this is something that you've been dwelling on for a number of years it may be hindering you more than you realise. I think PMA is key!!

In Canada you can pay for private fertility testing.. But the only problem with private places is they're purely there for profit. Meaning they will WANT to put you on treatments, expensive treatments.. And have you keep coming back.

If your cycles are regular, you shouldn't be too worried. It can take a healthy couple on average of a year to conceive, which is why they make you wait.

I thought I would reply as I'm also in Australia. You just need to go into your GP and talk about whats going on and maybe put forward what you might like to get tested. Most female fertility check stuff is covered by medicare, or at least mostly. (eg. pay $150 for an ultrasound and get $90 back from medicare) There are some places that do ultrasounds for free but they are few. I know of one in Brisbane (not sure about WA). Your GP can do pretty much all of the testing at almost no cost if you go to a bulk billing doctors. If they cant work it out they will put you on to a specialist. If you have private health insurance its a different story all together. hope this helps.

My question would be 1. how does your grandma know you can't have a baby? And 2. What are you doing in terms of ttc? Most doctors, even private ones will not begin any fertility testing until you have been actively trying for 6 or more months or have had multiple miscarriages. Actively trying includes temping, opk's and well timed intercourse.

I had to actively try naturally for a year with pcos before anything got checked.
I would go to your gp and see what they say. I had lots of test done but it took me 4 1/2 years to have my dd.x
I would be careful of the private ones like the other lady said there just out for your money.x
I hope you get the answer you need.x
