Fetal Echocardiogram

They told me that my pregnancy was considered high risk because I was on Lithium for the first 5 weeks I was pregnant, and Lithium can cause heart defects in babies. The doctor's at the high risk place said that I was only only on the medicine about a week and a half while the heart was developing, so they would like to look at the heart further and do a fetal echocardiogram. Has anyone had this done or knows about it? All I know is they can get a better look at the baby's heart but I have no idea what that entails. Hopefully, baby's heart is nice and healthy but I probably won't get much sleep tonight even though I'm trying to stay as positive as possible.


On a lighter note, I also have a 20 week ultrasound tomorrow too. So we get to find out if we're having a girl or a boy! I can not wait to have something to call the baby, I feel like "it" is not a very nice title

I didn't have one done, but my friend's mom (Who's due in October) had one done because she's high risk and has lupus so she was on medication as well. The way she explained it, it kind of sounded like a 3D scan of the heart since the medical reason for using 3D scans is to check for any abnormalities that the basic 2D wouldn't have picked up on. I may be wrong though.

Well, I'M HAVING A GIRL! I really didn't have a preference because I just wanted a healthy baby, and they said everything looked good, but it will be nice to have that mother daughter bond and be able to dress her up in cute little clothes. I also got the date for the fetal echocardiogram mixed up, and I won't have that until May, which i wish we could have just done that today, but I guess today was just the 20 week u/s. But, right after the appointment my boyfriend, grandmother, and I went to the store just to look at the little girl things. (My grandmother is SO excited for the baby) My grandmother ended up buying all of the bedding, a lamp to match, a diaper bag, and some other little things, which were all perfect! I'll post pictures soon in the "what you've bought your baby" thread. I am so excited! Thanks for listening!

Thank you! We're naming her Madilyn Anne, I guess having baby names picked out for my future children since I was 5 sure pays off now

haha I did the same thing! But once I actually fell pregnant I started finding flaws in them. I really liked the name Maelee, which would be shortened to Mae but with my surname it sounded funny. (Maelee Rowe? Not so bad. Mae Rowe? It sounds like a flower )

I had one. It was easy. They just look at the different chambers, blood flow, stuff like that- took about 20 min, nothing to be scared of.

I do like Maelee, I don't think it sounds like a flower, and even if it does, flowers are always beautiful which is a plus.
And this is a crazy coincidence but my baby's surname will also be Rowe! haha we've decided to give her, her daddy's last name
