hey all... excuse the probably daft questions!
ive been feeding Roo EBM since birth, shes 5 weeks now. Ive been introducing a little formula by way of aptamil blue cartons, for when we are out & about and caught short, or when shes cluster feeding in the evenings and sometimes i cant keep up with her, anyway, here are my questions lol
1. twice a day, she has a bottle which is half & half ebm and formula.. one of which is during the night. am i ok to make this up in the bottle and store it in the fridge.. ie.. not mix it fresh each time (the Ebm is in the fridge anyway, and the carton too if its already open, so its just the mixing it in advance im unsure of...)
2. once a bottle has been steralised in the steam steraliser, does it stay sterile if i take it straight out of the steraliser and store it in the fridge, empty? this one might sound weird, but its because we store & heat the milk in the avent bottles with the seal top rather than a teat, but feed from a MAM bottle (dont store it in them as its a nightmare to heat due to the thick bottoms..) oh is having some issues assembling the mam bottles as they are still new to us, and have about a zillion pieces..so if its still sterile in the fridge then i can assemble the night time bottle in advance and stick it in the fridge empty, so that all he has to do is heat the milk then transfer it to the already assembled bottle....

hope that makes sense!

so.. are these both ok to be doing?

Not sure about the first question, but the second....the bottles will stay sterile as long as the lid is on. Youre fine to add in what you need to and use them.
Similar to what i do with mine, i put in water and seal them and add powder in when im going to use the bottle.

im also no help to the 1st question

2nd question i steralize(sp?) **my brain is dead** my bottles then put them together and add water and formula as needed

There's no such thing as a stupid question! :hugs: We're all (or have been) new moms at one point or another!

TBH I don't know the "correct answer" for the first one, but common sense leads me to say that since they're both in the fridge anyway and you heat them up after before you give them to the baby, I don't see the harm in combining the 2 while you store them in the fridge  You may have to shake it up/mix it up though, not sure if formula or breastmilk would settle if you know what I mean..

The bottle will still be sterile after you sterilize, like Arcanegirl said, if the lid stays on it. I don't even keep my sterilized bottles in the fridge. The outside of the bottle doesn't need to be sterile, just the inside where the milk goes and the teat/nipple of the bottle :)

The first Q - yes that's fine I'm sure. I fill a few sterile bottles with formula now and put them in the fridge and then heat up when needed. (don't think you're meant to do this if you use powder though)
Like Tasha said, I don' think you need to store the empty bottles in the fridge...when I go out, I assemble the bottles empty and just put them in my bag, then fill with a carton of formula when Ruby needs feeding...
And yeah there are no stupid questions...OH and I were clueless about bottles, sterilising etc as we'd assumed I'd BF which didn't work out!
