Thought I would post to share my relief and excitement .... I have been TTC for the last 18 months. I went to the Dr's September last year and was told to give it until after chistmas but it was unlikely they would refer us until we had been trying for 2 years.

However, I went to the Dr's this morning and he has agreed to refer us to a fertility specialist and our appointment date should come through in the next few weeks.

I feel such a huge sense of relief as I actually feel like I am doing something and hopefully, whilst I know its going to take a lot of testing and time, we might find at least an explanation about why we haven't yet managed to conceive. For the first time in a long time I actually feel a bit more in control about TTC.... Lets just hope the tests can find a reason!

Good luck hun. I'm surprised your GP initially said they wouldnt refer you until you had been trying for 2 years - I think most GPs will refer couples at the one year stage so they can begin testing.

At least you should get some answers now! Hope you don't have to wait long for the tests. Good luck! x

Good Luck with everything! I hope everything goes well for u. It must be a great feeling to finally get the ball rolling. I also don't understand why they wait for two years. I was also referred after two years even though I went after six months and then after a year. Wish I had pushed a little.

Congrats Mama! I also felt so much better once we started fertility test/treatments because, YES, you actually feel somewhat in control. I felt so hopeless during TTC without assistance, so it was a nice change to be doing something that might actually result in a positive outcome! Good luck on your new journey!

That's great news and I wish you well for the rest of your journey. :happydance:

Good luck. I'm at the 12 month stage & need to book my drs appointment. I need to mention it to OH, but I know he won't like it as he's really shy & quiet & is embarrassed about having a sperm test.

As the man there really is nothing for him to be embarrassed about. My husband and I thought you had to give the sample in the surgery i.e be given some porn and a pot but you dont - you can do it in the comfort of your own home!! Our Dr told us that we can expect a pot and instructions in the post about where to take it. If he is embarrassed about having to take it in maybe you could offer to do it. When talking with the Dr I wouldn't have said anything that we discussed was emabarassing. It was mainly about my periods and what type of cylce I have. There was no mention of sex or any type of examination for my husband (he thought he was going to have his balls examined... bless!).

It is daunting going to the Dr's but hopefully you can put his mind at rest. He doesn't necessarily even have to join in with the conversation if he doesn't want to and you can do all the talking... sadly my husband normally cant get a word in edge ways!!! :dohh:

Thanks for all your good luck wishes girls. And I wish you all lots of luck too. I feel much much more comfortable over here then in the TTC forum as there is a lot more understanding.

Here's to our BFP's!! x
