I am still not certain if I am going to have my baby, but if I do the first year I want to be home with it to care for it. I know my family will help me out sometimes but i'll have to take care it most of the time.

I don't know how the father or his family will react but for the time of taking care of my baby does anyone know anything about child support or financial help when being a single parent? as once my baby is born I may only be able to work one or two days a week.

you can get child tax and a child care benifit but those are only about 280 and 100 dollars a month. other then that if you want to stay home you either have to stay home or go on welfare. however welfare will make you look for a job, and you dont get very much from them either. try and save as much as you can before hand

If you apply for welfare you take him to court. Which province are you in. I work in family law.....and am a former single mom

The making you look for work on welfare rules are different for single mothers. They make you look for welfare after 6 years from what I've heard in Ontario, to give you time to go to school and everything while they're in school.

im a single mother and they still made me look for work and my son was only 2. I also have a friend who has 2 under 2 and they also made her look for work and got to workshops and job fairs. They told me the government doesnt pay people to stay home with their kids, unless your classified as not expected to work due to some form of chronic illness but you also get less money if you fall into that classification

You know, I just realized I can't remember who told me that. I know it was a few people, but can't remember where it was I heard it. I'm meeting with Ontario Works next week though, I wasn't planning on being a single mom so I never looked into it before. I'll let you know what Ontario Works tells me, too!
