Find out passport number?

I need the FOB's passport number in order to fill out the passport application form however I don't have it and we don't talk. I do have his birth certificate copy though.
Does anyone know if there's another way to get the hold of expiration date and passport number other than to ask him?
I am dreading to ask him as I am sure either a) he won't help us b) he will try to use it against us in some way.

You don't need his passport number.. I got my daughters passport easily without his... I just gave his name, dob etc and my parents and got it just fine

That gives hope to the future (if we move to UK) but I wonder if it's possible to not having to enter his passport details when we are in Sweden. They want us to finish this form https://centralcontent.fco.gov.uk/resources/en/pdf/central-content-pdfs/form-c2.pdf and I don't have the information about his passport
