Finger foods ideas please, from real mums!

I really like the idea of BLW but every Wednesday my MIl drops of heaps of pureed food she makes which have obviously taken her time and effort and LO does enjoy them and they are nutritious. So i think i will give him the purees for lunch and for breakfast and dinner he can have finger foods.

I have looked on several babyled weaning websites and they say you cant say you are doing BLW and then also spoonfeed purees as you cant be a vegetarian and a carnivore, which i do agree with but i think it will work for us.

I have only gave him a few finger food so far, a banana, piece of melon ( i then found out you shouldnt feed melon until 8 months woops!) and he has had toast.

He loved the toast and i was surprised that almost half of it was gone after he gummed it to death but i did see a few bits get eaten. I hope to get a bit more adventurous with what i give him finger food wise but for now im just taken it slow as hes not even 6 months yet.

Oh why no melon til 8 months? I've given it too, thought it would be ok?

Dofferent websites have said different things, I think the main reason is its one of the foods they can be allergic too. I gave him it 2 days ago and hes totally fine though

the more i read about it, the more i want to try this!
Ive been giving tori baby porridge in the mornings for a week but she isnt interested in eating it and keeps pushing it out, its almost like im force feeding her keep poking it back in! :-/

im going to give her a finger of toast in the morning instead and see what she does with it, with food like pasta, cucumber sticks, etc do they not get really slippy?
Im really worried and can completely see why blw would be safer than tw but am scared that something i give her will be slippy and go in her throat or as its safer to give something she can hold (so big instead of small chopped) will she not shove the whole lot in? and if she does do i leave her to spit it out?

Sorry but i really want to give this route a shot but am so so frightened and confused!

No your right, make everything big so she can hold it and bite things off herself.

I've been giving LO finger foods since this thread was started and he's loving them. I'm still confused as to what he can and can't have though :(

He loved the broccoli!

He can have whatever you have, apart from honey under 1, and whole nuts. Other than that, let them experiment at family meal times. Don't add salt to their portion x

I've recently been making puff pastry pizzas.

Just use ready to roll puff pastry, tomatoes purée with some dried herbs sprinkled on and then whatever we have in the fridge. The favourite combination is red onion, which I fry first, mushroom, cherry tomatoes and cheddar and mozzarella cheese.

I make them for all of us so it's nice not to be making up two different meals.

So he can have basically everything we eat (apart from honey & nuts).. So do I just make it into pieces big enough that he can feed himself?

I gave him toast for breakfast this morning and he loved it.. I was a nervous wreck but if he gagged he just pulled the food out of his mouth and tried again! I can't wait to say goodbye to mashed up food and let him feed himself all of the time! x
