Hi everyone,

DH and I have been TTC # 2 for 2 years. I have a son who is 7. Tomorrow we have our first appointment with a FS. I am so scared. I know they aren't going to help us as I have a VERY high BMI 45+. I am truely trying to loose weight. I am going to weight management classes run by dieticians etc, but i just can't seem to loose the weight.. i feel so hopeless. I am going to ask them to check me for PCOS as I have pretty much all the symptoms, weight problems, irregular cycles, HEAVY periods, acne, excessive hair, family history etc...however, I have had an US to check for it this year and they came back and said that I did NOT have PCOS, but they could only see 1 ovary. So I want a second opinion to check the other ovary... I don't understand how they can rule it out by seeing 1 ovary? !

Anyway, got a bit side tracked there.

Can anyone please tell me what to expect at the first appointment. I don't know why, but I truly am so scared

hello lisa :)

I had my 1st appointment last week, i live in sweden so it might be a bit different to the uk but we got asked questions like how long have you been trying, how long are my cycles when did my last period start. she did an ultra sound on the day and i told her i though i had pcos.. she said i didnt from the us... but i am having hormone tests to check my hormones... i was so so worried about my weight, i have been trying to get my bmi under 30 all year and im not quite there yet... she didnt even bring up my weight, i told her i had lost weight taking my bmi down from 40 to 32 and she didnt really pay much attention to it, she told me that if we wanted free ivf it would have to be under 30... but that was only when i asked her.

you are entitled to a investigation and diagnosis regardless of weight hun,

good luck!! :hugs:

Thanks Lovie :hugs:.

I am glad your appointment went well and WELL DONE on your weight loss.

i have just been writing down my cycle history to take with me tomorrow, crazy how much each cycle has differed. My cycle length range from 22 days to 102 days!.

I never thought I'd feel THIS nervous about going to a FS. I have known this day was coming for quite some time, never felt nervous about it really, but the butterflies really are going wild in my stomach tonight!

I just hope they can see past my weight and treat me like any other human being. My cycles have ALWAYS been long, erratic and heavy, even when I was my 'ideal' weight, I truly do NOT believe that my ovulation/irregular cycle problems are due to my weight (although I accept they aren't helped by it).

hopefully they will trat you regardless of weight, but definatly make a fuss if they dont you are entitled to some answeres :hugs:
