First appointment

So my first doctors appointment is on Friday and I was wondering if anyone knows if they do a scan at the first visit? A friend told me it was all blood work the first visit then they will schedule a scan. Does it just depend on the doctor maybe?

Its mostly just your blood work, your medical, spouse medical and both family medical history (if possible), lots of chatting, asking questions and then schedule scan depending on how far along you are.

Well I had to wait until I was 8 weeks because she wouldn't see me before that but I don't understand why I would have to wait so long and for her not to even do a scan?

I have no idea about the doctors or anything where you are. But, I think the reason they wait a while for your first app is because of early miscarriages. It's less common at 8 weeks than it would be at say 5 or 6.

I was working with a specialist before i got pregnant so when i did and i told them they booked me in for a scan right away at 6 weeks. I have now just today had my second at 8 weeks and have my third booked for 11 weeks. I dont think that is the norm though. After my 11 week scan my next scan wont be till around 20 weeks, unless i firmly request it. I have heard of places that dont even do first scans till 20 weeks!!! Most family doctors dont have the equipment to do scans in the office unless you are seeing a obgyn or something. I would suggest if she doesnt book one for you requesting one. Be firm that you want it for your own sanity.

From my first basic appointment like described above, I had my scan the very next week. Whic was today, first apt was last Tuesday.

I'm not sure if she has the equipment because this will be my first time seeing her but I'm worried because I have Pcos which carries a higher risk of miscarriage. I hope with me telling her that she will see that one is needed immediately lol. Thank you ladies and I'm so happy to hear that your scans went so well . Are you ftm as well?
