First Doctor's Appt?

Hi ladies - I just got my BFP yesterday and this is my first pregnancy. I called my Obgyn to make an appointment and they scheduled me for the 8 weeks mark and said I don't need to come in before that. Should I try to get an appointment with my general doctor before that it is it okay to wait until 8 weeks? Thanks!

I have no idea about America but in the UK no one will see you before 8 weeks unless you're high risk so I imagine it'll be fine?
