First fertility appointment...this can't be normal?

So after 2 years of TTC, I finally made an appointment with a fertility specialist in my area. The appointment barely lasted 15 minutes...first off, we waited almost an hour to get seen and when we finally got to see the doctor, she was in an extreme rush. She asked me how many years I was TTC...she was also very condescending asking if I'm doing it on the right days and if I understand fertile days. She then said she doesn't understand why I havent concieved yet and ordered a pap smear and urine test and then told me to see her back in six months if I still haven't concieved.

She didn't bother with a blood test, talking about my options, or anything. Is this what normally happens at first appointments? I feel so stupid for wasting a whole day that I could have worked and she made it sound like 2 years is no big deal. She's supposed to be the best in our area too.

Wow...ok, that doesn't sound normal to me considering infertility is a year under 35, 6 months over 35. I would go see someone else. Not sure what she hopes to find in the pap and urine test.

Lacey, that is awful! I am sorry you doctor acted like that. No that is not normal! I would expect a new doctor to talk to you a bit about the process, what could be wrong, do some blood work and have a transvaginal u/s. I would see someone else!

Not normal. On our first appt, OH and I were there for about 2 hours. We went over past medical history....some basic biology (just to make sure...he said you'd be surprised at what people didn't know)....he gave some theories and then went over some suggestions. I got bloodwork (12 vials), and internal ultrasound, testing for any sort of bacteria, and OH got a sperm analysis. When the tests came back, he called to go over them and went over a treatment plan.

I'd definitely find another Dr! A few years ago I went to the 'best' in my area too. Hell, the guy had several Discovery Health Channel documenteries done about him...I assumed that meant he was great! Not so much. So sorry you had to go through this!!

EXTREMELY NOT NORMAL. find another fs. dh and i were at our first appointment for almost an hour going over our medical/family history, our ttc history, and our testing and treatment options. fertility treatments should NEVER be rushed. DO NOT continue to see the doctor.

thats not normal! I hope you can go to another dr.. definatly push for a sperm analysis and tests to see if you are ovulating (at least those tests).

Another that's not normal. Heck, my gynecologist asked more information than that! I know that at the clinic in my city, they go through history, tests, what tests to order, a physical and even an ultrasound.

I would ask for another appointment to discuss these things.
