Hey all, well my first appointment is next Monday and in one way I can't wait to get the ball rolling but in another way I'm scared as I keep my weight very close to my chest when it comes to dh so wouldn't just want them to pull out the scales and shout it about at all lol I was wondering what actually happens on that first appointment because......

1) my day 3 and 21 bloods showed I didn't o (but I wouldve only been 4dpo)
2) dh sa results state low morphology 9.5% (teratozoospermia)
3) doc now suspects pcos as had blood taken last month and lh was "higher than normal" but they were done on cd15 so I may have just been o'in.

So I'm kinda hoping I get a scan straight away or at least very soon as I just want to know now.but will he want us to do bloods and sa again just to be sure?? Arhhhhh I'm going crazy  xx

its really hard to say as every FS seems to have a different approach! It sounds like the tests you have had weren't done at the best of times to answer the questions that they are taken for so it may be that they redo those. If your dh's sa was low then they may arrange to do a repeat test for that also after 3 months.

At my first appointment, it was a very basic chat through the process and the possible treatments. I was booked in for an ultrasound and then for a HSG but this was all over a period of several months, again the speed of the tests seems to vary though depending on the clinic you are with.

Best of luck!

My progress has been very quick since my first appointment. I have PCOS so went to the docs after we had been trying for a while. She referred me and i had an appointment within a month. I was told i needed to lose weight before they would consider giving me fertility drugs. I went back a month later and had lost enough weight so was booked in for a Laparoscopy within a month. I had the Lap last Monday and now have my next appointment (where i will receive fertility drugs) in 2 weeks so all in all it has only been around 3 1/2 months from first referrel so not too long really for me

Good luck hun x

Honestly, it felt like it took forever to get rolling . . .
When we did the first tests, our dr thought she saw polyps. Then, I had to wait nearly a month to do the HSG -- yep, polyps. (thought it was just his sc, not me!). Took another month to get the hysteroscopy/laproscopy -- not only polyps but endo & a "chocolate" cyst (disgusting!). Then, she wanted us to wait a month so my system would have a chance to recover. Then, two holidays, Thanksgiving & Christmas, and Jan no good b/c of DH's work. FINALLY, IUI in Feb -- 7 months after initial appointment.

As you can see, 3 months of that was just bad timing, but the others had to do with cycles & testing & surgery. You will probably move along much, much faster than I did. Great good luck to you!!

I'm quite abit over weight but losing weight through exercise and healthy eating but do u think this will stop them giving me a scan to see if I have pcos? And if I do have it will they not prescribe clomid or anything until I'm a good weight? Xx

they will still give you a scan to check for pcos, they do an internal "transvaginal" scan to look at your ovaries clearly.
my fs has told me she needs me to get my bmi as close to 35 as possible to give assistance. good luck!

hi

At my 1st appointment i got my bloods done (FSH, LH, Estrodial etc). She did an internal scan of my ovaries. Asked about general health, periods, etc. DH did his sample. Then she put me on a waiting list for IVF - she never offered clomid cos I ov'd on my own. But i wasnt happy with the appointment at all so i went private a few months ago - she gave me clomid straight away and also organised a HSG to check for blockages (thankfully there was none).

Basically when you go to see the FS demand a HSG 1st, then clomid 2nd (in case there is a blockage cos no point taking it if there is), then hopefully you will get lucky on that.

Im sure they will do all the routine blood tests (at the right time of the month) before she can move forward.

good luck with the appointment.

I wasn't told how much weight or what BMI i needed to be at when she said i needed to lose weight which was a bit unnerving as i didn't have a goal. I was just over 35 bmi but once i lost the weight i was just under 35 bmi. I had only lost 5.5lbs so i think the BMI limit is 35 across the board x
