This is my second month on Clomid (50mg on days 3-7). Last month, I was not able to detect my LH surge with the OPK. This month, I went in on day 13 for a vaginal ultrasound. He found 2 very large follicles on my left side and 3 smaller ones on the right. The next day I checked for my LH surge and it was +. My IUI was scheduled for this morning at 9am. My husband has a very high sperm count, but the morphology is not quite right. Doctor wanted to do IUI to increase our chances of getting pregnant. We have been trying for over a year. We went in this morning with my husband's specimen. Prior to washing, my doctor said my husband's count was really high again. However, after the washing only about 5% of the sperm were still alive. We did the IUI but doctor said he was not optimistic about our chances. Has anyone else been in this situation? I was so happy and excited yesterday and this morning....now I am just depressed. Do I still have any chance of getting pregnant this month with such a small amount living? Any comments welcomed! Thanks!

aww definitely don't be pessimistic my dear.. I can understand why you would be.. I think it's all relative. 5% of 300 million sperm is a lot better than 5% of 10 million sperm - so it just depends.. and even if you didn't have huge numbers doesn't mean it won't help. The sperm are at an advantage after the wash AND with the IUI being placed as close as they possibly can. Make sure you BD today and tomorrow too to increase your chances!! Have faith my dear- it CAN happen!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi sorry I am new to this hope you don't mind me asking but are you taking clomid? Think Ill be starting this soon too wasn't aware of sperm washing or is this a combination of treatments thanks in advance xx

sorry that should say are you taking just clomid obvious taking clomid lol excuse me x

I know it's tough hun... I was told we only had a 5% chance last cycle, due to my FSH levels being a bit high... I felt like a deflated balloon after our appt lol!!! BUT- there is still a chance... and couples overcome the "odds" all the time!!!

Ya never know... and it can't hurt to stay positive!!! Fingers crossed for ya hun... as long as there are some strong swimmers and that one good egg... that's all it may take! hehe

:hugs: It's so hard when you go through all the medications and appointments and then get news like that. But I agree with holly that 5% of a high count is still a lot, and the IUI gives them a headstart. You're not out til you are out and all the doctor can really do is guess. My RE says that at my age there would only be a 10-15% chance with IUI on the best cycle, but that doesn't mean that it can't or won't happen.

Hi everybody-just joining this thread. I've been TTC for three years, and had MC 13 months ago. Still trying. Am due to start IUI when the old hag, AF arrives, which was supposed to be two days ago, but she hasn't arrived properly. I am cramping, have brown discharge, but no AF.
Anyway, what I wanted to say was that if your husband has a high sperm count, then 5% is still a fantastic statistic. I guess it's staying positive and thinking 'It WILL happen.' So, try and remain calm and all the best of luck!
Incidentally, has anyhone here tried acupuncture??
Good luck everybody!
