So, what do I expect? Is it only paperwork? Is there some sort of examination?

Lots of paperwork!! Maybe a urine test. Height weight & blood pressure. They'll also bombard you with info!!

Thank you so very much Peril! I was starting to wonder if anyone has ever attended a midwife appointment with the lack of replies. :S

Forms forms forms. =D maybe some bloods and a BMI check.

Exactly what everyone else said :) I've got mine in 30 minutes :-D xx

Well, I got a phone call from the midwives... my appt had to be cancelled because my midwife was called in to deliver a baby. LOL

Gotta love the unpredictability of labour and delivery! haha

She asked me to come in tomorrow and says it should only take one hour.

:hi: she will fill out forms, ask questions, tell you information, take blood samples and may get you to pee in a tube :D

I made my appointment today, going on 30th Nov when I'll be 8 weeks.

Don't think DH is going to be able to make it but I guess that doesn't matter if it's just form filling, although if they do bombard me with info I'll never remember it!

Did everyone else's OHs go to first MW apt with you?

xx

My OH went with me. because they will need to no any medical history of both sides. So if hes not going just take info of this with you.

I've just had my first one and I went alone, I was there for all of 30 minutes and she booked me into the phlebotomist for bloods tomorrow AM, she's also arranged to come to my house next tuesday to give me the bounty pack and go over details and birthing options so she can send me down the right carepath.

She did a questionnaire which basically informs her of any issues, and then evaluated the results - I'm low risk which means I will get my dating scan early December, then a routine scan at 20 weeks and the meetings and GTT during/after these appointments.

It's all OK really, nothing scary xx

Lucky you, I'm only 2 weeks behind you & was told I would be lucky to get a scan before xmas, it may be 1st week of new year!

No mention of bounty pack, though my sister has said I should get told about Bounty Pack.

How come your having bloods taken?

Bloods for tests with baby, blood type, Aids HIV and something else. i just accepted everything. before for the safety of my baby. id give everything.

Really...after new year?! I suppose it depends on how busy they are?...I'd be climbing the walls waiting until after christmas lol.

I had my bloods done for HIV, Rubella immunity (I don't have any immunity against it - they found this out last time!), Hep B, syphillis (sp?) the routine antenatal bloods, family history/origin and an extra one for Aenemia (sp?) - Phew...I'm glad I'm not a Doctor...I can't spell for toffee

I'm really scared of needles but my fiance was there distracting me with wedding plans and a bribe of this mythical bracelet he promises me everytime I have my blood taken! Bless! xx

Aaah I think I get those bloods when I have my scan.

Really hope I have scan before xmas, or I might have to give in and have a private one just for piece of mind!

Yay. Needles. :(

Well, hopefully we don't have anymore births today to cancel my appt! :)

Thank you everyone!

(oh, and posting because I am wanting to see my new fruit and story for the week lol)

My first appointments in the morning. OH shall be coming with me, even tho when I asked him if he knows much of his family medical history, he said no ><

We dont no much about OHs dad but the midwife dident seem to worried. i dont think its extreamly needed info it just helps them map out for problems. Im shure theres nothing to worrie about. =) enjoy your midwife app. xx

Well, that was easy. Filled out papers, listened to baby's heartbeat, and agreed to the IPS testing so I could have another ultrasound. lol

Midwife didn't take my bloods, because she was up since yesterday morning (she had two births yesterday)

They will do my blood tests on Tuesday when I go for the ultrasound.

They didn't ask much about hubby's family history... I could have answered the questions for him. But, I was glad he was there so he could hear the heartbeat!
