Hi all hope you`re all doing well today... I know I'm still pretty early in my pregnancy 16-17 weeks for those who don't know.. I'm going out of town
tomorrow (which i barely get to!) so i can do some clothes shopping. In doing that I want to get some stuff for baby. Not too much but just to get a start on it since it's not often I get to. Any of you all know what are the first things I should start getting ready for baby??:baby:

Lol well when I started shopping I got a couple unisex outfits but not many. Other then that I don't really know. My mom told me not to do any shopping until after my baby showers. If you are not having any baby showers I would probably just get a few small things for now. Sorry if I wasn't much help.

didn't buy anything til our 20 week scan, if i were you i'd buy baby lotion, baby oil, pacifiers (if you plan on using them), diaper rash creams ect, the little things that you will need either way.

i brought the baby bath the baby toiletries, loads of white plain vests, unisex sleepsuits a few unisex outfits like yellows and whites, greys etc xx

Ive got pretty much all of the clothes i need already. All of it unisex (im not finding out the sex) apart from a couple of blue things i got second hand and a couple of pink. Figured it wouldnt matter anyway, a boy can wear pink under his pram suit and nobody will know! Any essentials are ok though like vests and babygro's/sleepers and hats etc.

I wouldn't buy anything until you know the sex (that is of course, if you're going to find out) because if you have a girl, you may want to buy more girly things then just unisex outfits or if you have a boy you might want to buy boyish things. That's how I was anyways, I bought a few unisex outfits but I never put him in them, because they weren't as cute as his boy outfits. If you do buy some unisex onesies or something. :flower:

Newborn babies arent allowed to have baby oil on them, lotions or baby shampoo ... i had all of them etc. wetwipes and all but your not allowed to use them at first.

I would sugest getting some sudacrem. Vasaline. Newborn vests and newborn sleepsuits/babygrows. x

Um, this definitely varies. Not being "allowed" to put something on your baby is bizarre to me. In the US no one comes in to check in on you and the baby unless they have some reason to believe there's abuse or neglect. I know that's different in the UK though.

In the US you're definitely "allowed" to use lotion, oil and shampoo on the baby, you're just supposed to keep it away from the cord to avoid infection.

Every midwife and health visitor in the UK ive come across so far has said not to use them as they cause dry skin, peeling skin, and other things. and that newborns skin is too sensitive for them.
I didnt believe them at first. used some baby oil (johnsons) and it made my littles ones skin peely by the next day. x
I guess its personal choice but if you do i wouldnt tell your health visitor x (UK people)

^ Cherry is correct in what she is saying, however it's not that you're 'not allowed' it's that you are advised not too. Newborn babies don't need lots of soaps and things, they're skin is still very sensitive and they have natural oils that don't really want to be washed off with loads of products. Even Johnsons say in small print on the bottom of their adverts 'tested on babies OVER 7 months'. I didn't used products on my little girl until she was about 4 months, and even then it was only Aqueous Cream as she had fairly dry skin. It is of course a personal choice, but if it's not needed, why use it?

And in reply to the actual question of the thread, the first things I advise you get are things like sudocreme, sleepsuits and vesties (bubba will be most comfortable in these for at least the first few weeks of their life), you might want to think about getting some nipple cream if you are planning on breastfeeding (ABSOLUTE LIFESAVER!). Personally I didn't get anything for my little girl or my little boy (this pregnancy) until after my 20 week scan.

xoxox

In the uk you can use the newborn huggies wipes on newborns. I would get these and maybe some nappies, and things like blankets/towels/sponges/flannels can be bought easily regardless of sex.

xx

I also chose a theme, and then from 20 weeks onwards I bought diff parts of the theme every month, such as wallpaper boarder/cot bedding/moses basket/cot mobile/nursery decorations, so you may want to look at themes (if your having one)
xx

you could also get some sheets for the moses basket/cot etc x

umm thats a load of crap... Please don't blatantly post things when you don't know the standards for all places. I used babil oils and lotions on my son from day one because he had dry skin, also used baby shampoo. My sons skin is perfectly fine. And irregardless she asked for things she should buy hence my post, nowhere did i say anything about when to use them only those are a few things she could buy from the beginning
