Hi everyone! In a few weeks we will be giving LO her first food. I have already bought Healthy Timez Organic Oatmeal Cereal for Baby. I am unsure about how much liquid to use for the first time. Also, would you suggest warming it? Also how long until I can start to thicken it? AND how long should I just offer cereal until I can start adding veggies like sweet potato or carrot? TIA:flower:

Starting at 6 months they can have whatever you're eating (except whole nuts and honey) so you can add veggies etc. right from the start if you want.

We never used baby cereal as we didn't see it as necessary and are BLW so no spoons so I can't comment on how watered down it should be.. but we did try oatmeal in the beginning (he still hates it :haha:) and we made it super thick so he could use his hands

hi
when we first stArted on cereal I made it quite runny, it's trial and error , see how lo finds it. over a couple of weeks it got a bit thicker
as we started at 6 months I think we only did just cereal for a couple of days and went straight on to veg and fruit purees
hope that helps

sorry forgot to add after mixing either milk I do warm it in the microwave fir a short while, be careful of hot spots if u do do this !

Thanks for the help. We plan to do TW at first. I am a huge panicer, so I want to have a little confidence before we move on to finger foods. Judging by the way she gobbled up her cold meds the other day, she should have no trouble getting any food down. i am a FTM and worry about doing everything"right." I also want to do TW at the beginning because I want us to enjoy the experience together. Hopefully I will get some confidence to give her things like avocado and banana pretty soon.

i just mixed it with cool water at first and made it quite runny. after a couple of days then thickened it up.
and after a couple days i started offering blended carrots, brocolli, apples, pears etc. you can also give mashed banana. and mashed potatoe mixed with milk, dont blend the potatoe cause it goes all starchy! a good mashing is fine.

I make it with warmed formula. I just warm up a bottle as usual and then pour what I need into the cereal and then she finishes the rest of the bottle after the cereal. Make it really runny for the first time so it's basically soupy, then you can gradually use less milk to make it thicker as lo gets used to it. I started early to help with reflux so I won't start with fruits and veggies until 6 months. If your lo is already 6 months, you can start veggies and fruit anytime, no need to stick with only cereal.

Good idea about the potatoes. I hadn't thought of that.
