First unread post

When I open a thread I haven't been on in a while and go to first unread post, it takes me to a post a maximum a day or two ago when I know I haven't seen that thread for a while IYKWIM. Is this normal or a little bug in the system?

Unread posts only work up to 7 days. To have any more would be a drain on the server

I tried the search feature, and I can't seem to find the answer to my question, so rather than start a new thread on a topic that is PROBABLY answered somewhere...

What exactly do I click on to jump to the first unread post in a thread?
