First words and now...

Isabelles first word was 'duckkkk' for drink at about 15 months. She added 'ta' and that was it for a few months. About 18 months she added about 10 more words and now at nearly 22 months she has about 70 words. She is adding them all the time now though, probably 2 or 3 a day.

Daisy's first word was at 14 months old and now at 3years 5 months her speech is fluent, very good vocabulary and she speaks in complex setences. Pre-school, health visitors etc always comment on her advanced speech.

Tommy's first word was at 11 months and now at 18 months he has at least 50 words and puts two words together ( what's this? Where's Daisy? etc).

Honestly I can't remember when Millie said her first word but it was daddy swiftly followed by mummy, think it was about 10 months?...Now at 2.5 she speaks so amazingly well. We can understand her 90% of the time and she can tell us about her day :) love it.

DS's first proper word (not counting mama and dada) was "car" when he was 19.5 months old. He's just turned 2 and has maybe 30 words now. We are starting speech therapy shortly (got referral letter today). He's as bright as a button and understand everything we say to him, so it actually hasn't been a big problem.

DD has just turned one and other than babbling (which includes mama and dada), her only other word is "bye" and she waves at the same time. It's funny, I see her as some kind of child genius - "OMG my baby is 12 months and can say 'bye'" !!! Just because I'm so used to having a baby/child who never said a word :)

LO could say mama and dada by 10 months, but it could have been just babbling. Around 14 months he had quite a few words, "uh oh", Nana, Pop, switch (for light switch), and could say most animal sounds like woof, meow, baa, moo, etc.

Now at 18 months he tries to repeat what we say and has at least 50 words in context.. maybe more, he seems to get a bunch more every day! No sentences yet.

My LO was a late talker, he didnt say a word other than 'uh-oh' until he was 22 months, when he came out with five words in one day.. I was astonished i thought he would never talk!
Though he is still (understandably) behind his peers i'm not concerned, he can talk in simple sentances (mummy where are you? For example) and understands everything i say. Plus his physical development has always been advanced, and im given to understand its usually one or the other?

Thanks for this thread. :) Lilly can only say hi, mama, and daddy, all in context but doesn't say anything else!

Still waiting for mama in context here! She's started saying "mama" for oatmeal though, not sure what that's about :dohh:

Earl could say 'helicopter' before I got a 'mummy' in context. He was 20+months! :dohh:

Eddy calls me 'Bob!' - can't thank my hubby enough for that one! :haha:

At 18 months he said mum. Now at 22 months we have an occasional hiya and yeah and what seems to be garden and daddy but not fully developed words yet.

DD1 said first word properly around 12 ish months and then it exploded. She's ahead in speech and at 2 years I couldn't count the words. 18 months she had about 200 words. Especially in the last week her speech is insane! She's speaking in sentences, can count, trying to write numbers etc...

Willow said "duck" in context from about 12 months...then that was pretty much it until 16 months when she started doing animal noises (ok not really talking), daddy, ta, cheese.

Otherwise she says things that resemble words but only as I know what she means...so ball is "Dohl", teddy is "edy", tractor is "acor"... No one else has a clue what shes saying!

Thomas said 'bye' once at 18 months. At 22 months he had 8 simple words (things like car, teddy etc).

Now he has so many words I could never count them all. His speech just took off all of a sudden. He's always changing how he talks too, for example if he didn't know something, a month ago he would just say 'dunno'. Now he'll say 'hmm, I'm not sure'.

His first sentence was 'I done a poo' which was cute and funny.

We thought he would never talk, now he honestly talks so much that it wears me down, I'm sure I'm going to need therapy to cope haha! He talks just as well as his almost 4 year old cousin, who had words by 11 months.

My son said his first word car at 10m, shortly followed by bus, big car and cat. He's fully conversational now at 23m. Not full sentences with joining words, but he can repeat anything and understands most things. Says 5 word sentences. Can sing a couple of songs too. I think he's amazing

Billy is nearly 15 months and has well over 100 words. He confidently talks in lengthy sentences. Unfortunately, the only tiny hitch is that I can't actually understand any of it.

Finlay's first word was 'Hello' at 8ish mths. Since then he can now also say in context Mama, Hiya, Bubba (baby), Uh-oh and recently added wow to his repertoire. He refuses to say Dadda or Daddy. He just grins and laughs at us! :) To be honest I was wondering why his speech had stalled a bit given he started early, but I thought it was reassuring what a pp said about concentrating on physical things. He's almost there on walking.

He does have full on babble monologues complete with Shakespearean hand gestures which is hillarious! He has also started to make oohs along to music, so I figure he'll be difficult to keep quiet once he gets going!!

My little man said "button" just before his first birthday and then stopped for a while but now says quite a bit or tries to anyway. He's almost 20 months now.

Noah said daddy, and ca ( cat) by 12 months, he's nearly 18 months now and has about 10-12 words which he uses regularly, he's also started to copy lots of sounds and words, usually the last word of a sentence, but I don't count them as he doesn't understand the meaning, or use them independently.
