Hello all,

I would just like to know if any of you ladies suffer from Crohn's disease at all? I was diagnosed last year and am now 17 weeks pregnant. Up until 12 weeks of my pregnancy everything was running smoothly and we were due for our first scan but unfortunately the night prior to our scan appointment I suffered a massive flare up which saw me in hospital for 10 days on IV steroids and antibiotics and there was a possibility that I would have to have an operation if they found an obstruction. Luckily op was not needed in the end and eventually had our scan which showed all was, thank god, well with the baby. I have been fine since and have been carrying on with my meds and now down to 15 mg of steroid and also on azathioprine but last night started to suffer again with tummy ache and vomiting though seems to be better today though.
Would love to hear how you dealt with your crohns during your pregnancy and how it affected you. As much as doctors try to reassure you about the safety of meds etc I find its much more reassuring to hear from people who have actually been through it themselves and ultimately everything turned out fine!!

Thanks all,
Claire

Hiya Claire

I've got Crohns. I was diagnosed with it when i was 25 and had a hemi colectomy <sp> when i was 27. I refused to take any medication when i was pregnant with Harry because i was convinced it was my medication that caused me to lose a baby a few years ago. Tests showed that my medication was not to blame and it was just 'one of them things' argh! I hate hearing them words!
Whilst pregnant with Harry i had several flare ups, but managed to ride them through untill i was 30 wks. I had been diagnosed with gestational diabetes and my keytones were +3. They kept asking me if i was starving myself...as if! i was hungry all the time lol They took me in and put me on a drip and i was fine for a wk...then they were back to +3...so back into hospital, back on a drip. My Crohns was actually better when i was pregnant, ive suffered since ive had Harry but i know in time it will settle down.
Good luck with your pregnancy xxxxx

Thanks so much for your reply.

Just nice to know that I'm not the only one!! Always hard not to worry that things are going to be ok but hearing from people like yourself reassures me no end! So glad all turned out ok for you and Harry in the end too.

Hope you feel better yourself very soon.

xxxx

I also have Crohn's, diagnosed last year but suffered undianosed for years. When they found it, It was so severe no meds helped and I had bowel re-section surgery in Aug last year. I became pregnant 2 weeks after, had a m/c at 7wks and got pg again 2 weeks after!
Here I am now 25 weeks. My Crohn's is still severe and I am struggling through with no meds until after the birth. Just have to stay at home when having a 'bad' day.
I am at very very high risk of prem delivery. (DS2 born wasat 26wks for other reasons)
I am interested to see how others are coping with being pg and having this.
