Flats on Gumtree

how do you know if there real or not? two people have got back to me, one guy sent me pictures of his furnished flat, however the picture of the kitchen is different in one photo than it is in the other, and the guy says he accepts DSS however the photos look like the flat my mum and dad used to rent out which was £1000 pcm then the other guy says he has a furnished flat about 5 minutes from where i live so i know the place quite well, however he claims he is in africa atm and will have to send me the keys and i'll have to send him the deposit money :S he sent me pictures too, which look real but i really can't tell. it's really difficult to find private property that accept DSS and this guy gets back to me, and the pictures he sends are lovely, but i can't get a veiwing as he is in africa? how do you know whether to trust them or not?

i would not trust the africa thing, becuase they will scam you in anyway possible.
don't pay anything to a flat, that you have not seen yourself and met with the landlord

you know your local council should have a list of local ''approved landlords'' i know mine does for sure, and its just a list of the landlords and properties available in the area that are trusted etc. xx

There are sooo many scam flats on gumtree hun- be really careful.

The africa thing is definatly a scam, and if it seems to be too cheap then its probs a scam too

Erm I wouldnt trust any of that babe. Im on dss and I found mine on rightmove I just emailed every flat I like the look of asked them if they take hosuing benefit and waited for them to get to me I got 3 flat in week that took dss and now I live in the one .

Try your local newspapers as well hun x hope that helps

Noooo don't do it! Lol the africa thing is absolute bullsh*t, no decent landlord would suggest such a thing. You're best not to hand over any money whatsoever until you've read the tenancy agreement, checked he's approved, and seen the place.

gumtree is good..but not reliable as theres so many fakes on there just to do scams..
i wouldnt trust either..if you could get someone to go with you to view the plc and meet the landlords before anything coz pictures dont stand for nothing x

thats a scam hun, just watch what your doing on gumtree hun although you can get good places on gumtree there are alot of scams there are pretty sites which might help like:
