Flexible working-anyone know where i stand!

So i made a request for flexible working - basically to work 3 full days rather than my normal 5 and had a meeting with them today which lasted a whole of 5 mins in which they point blank refused with no room for compromise. Basically i either go back full time or not at all. Now i know i can appeal but im wondering is there much point? Or is there anything else i can do? Any advice would be appreciated. Kx

Hiya hun...do you have any company policies and procedures you could look into in regards to this matter. When i returned to work i also requested flexible working hours...this was discussed with my line manager and then i followed the protcol and wrote a letter...i recieved a letter back confirming they were happy for me to do this. According to our policies they had to have a extremly good reason not to accept my request eg: risk to people in the workplace or risk to the environment etc. (as i work in a hospital) You really need to look into your rights in regards to this...i wouldnt give up without seeing your options. The law states they have to have a valid reason for you not to work part time. I'd phone CAB and ask them for advice hun xxx

That site helped me a lot when I was in negotiations with my company regarding going back part time as I was having problems too. They weren't as rigid as your company sounds, but I ended up going in for a meeting to discuss things. I managed to get more or less the hours I wanted, hope that it is of some use to you!

hi hun, my work are the same.
as iv had 9 month off they have offered me my old job but as i was working full time before they have only offered me my full time position, they are not able to offer me part time. im currently waiting for them to get back to me about it as im really not happy. they are offering me other jobs for part time hours but i want to stay with my old team. they have offered everyone else part time hours but me, as apparently there are too many part tiem staff working on one team.
