Flooring in kids bedrooms??

So we're having an extension and renovating the bungalow at the moment and we're at the point we need to decide on flooring. We had decided on carpet in the kids rooms but it would be cheaper and probably easier all round if we did laminate throughout the entire bungalow...

Question of the day - what flooring do you have in your kids rooms, do you think laminate would be ok? Or should we go with carpet?

And secondary question - would it look ok to have the same flooring throughout? (Except kitchen bit of open plan kitchen/diner/living room)
