Right, I really really don't want this to turn into a discussion about pros and cons of the flu jab so let's just assume I've made the decision and I want the jab.

Those having/had the jab, should I wait til second trimester? Or is it ok to have it now?

Please just answers to these questions, no "don't get the jab" replies :flower:

Thanks all xxx

Im in exactly the same dilema today. Got my appointment throught for oct 13th from my doctors and im just not sure i want it after everything i have read on here. xx

I'm getting it in the 2nd trimester. I think most the websites put on here are scare mongering. I have it every year no problem.

I think id rather have the jab than risk my baby!!
I can get it through work (although trying to contact Occ Health is a nightmare in itself and i'll have had the baby by the time i get through at this rate!!)
I know we have a backlog at work so i should be just into my 2nd tri when i get the jab (if they let me have it).
Id still have it now though (although ive got a stinker of a cold that i woke up with today) :(
Personally, i think you need to weigh up the pros and cons and then go from there......
xx

xx

I had the flu shot with my previous pregnancies and both my kids a perfectly healthy.

I'm having it 6th oct due 2 asmtha aswell should I wait untill 2nd tri??

I just told another girl this, if you've had the flu shot already then you shouldn't need another one, the point in getting the shot is to make your body immune, so unless they have changed the strands in the shot, you should never need it again. Like the common cold, once you catch one strand of it, you can NEVER catch it again.

In the UK its changed every year and you have to go for a new jab every year to be immune

but I thought every year the flu shot was different because viruses mutate into other strands. So they make a new flu shot each year making you immune to that specific flu. I could be wrong, but thought that was what my doctor tole me.

Im booked in to get it on the 5th of Oct I will be just over 6wks the doctor said it is safe at any stage ,I have never had it before & havent heard anything bad about it but did see lots of stories last year of pregnant women serioulsy ill with swine flu so deffo getting it xxx

Ive just found this on the NHS website:
Pregnant women
It is recommended that all pregnant women should have the seasonal flu vaccine, whatever stage of pregnancy they're in.

This is because there is good evidence that pregnant women have an increased risk of developing complications if they get flu, particularly from the H1N1 strain.

Studies have shown that the flu vaccine can be safely and effectively given during any trimester of pregnancy. The vaccine does not carry risks for either the mother or baby. In fact, studies have shown that mothers who have had the vaccine while pregnant pass some protection to their babies, which lasts for the first few months of their lives.

I just had the letter from my docs today asking me to come in for it. I'll probably go in a couple of weeks so I will just be into the second trimester. I'm definitely going to get it - I don't believe all the scaremongering about why you shouldn't get it.

I'm waiting until the second tri (I'm really close now, but I've always considered this). It's just a personal preference, nothing my doctor told me. I plan to ask about it at my next appointment at the beginning of the month anyway though.

I work in a pharmacy and we are getting it in at the end of October, I'll also be in 2nd tri then and won't hesitate in getting mine. :)

I'm 8 weeks and 1 day. I found out I was pregnant 2 days ago and got the shot yesterday. My doc insisted on it and I was planning on it anyway. Especially this time of year it's important. Who need a flu on top of being pregnant?

Thank you all for your answers :flower: my jab is booked for Wednesday xxx

H&H 9m to all xx

Ive got mine booked for 8th oct i will be 12 weeks but only cuz thats as soon as they cud fit me in hun... :) it does hurt ur arm tho so be warned lol my arm killed last time but then im a wimp hen it comes to my arms haha xx

I had my 12w appointment this past week, and the OB's office had just gotten their supply of the flu shot. My OB offered it to me, and I took it. Being an asthmatic, I need to have it ever year anyhow.
