i just got prescribed today with antibiotics for an infection in my navel piercing.
but im now wondering if i over reacted and should i give the salt water a chance, cos its not even red anymore, but i do have a small piece of what looks like flesh hanging out of the piercing hole.
but as the dr said nothing is 100% safe to take during pregnancy and i dont want to put my chld at risk

I had to take this as well for an infection in my foot when i was 8 weeks...both hospital and midwife said it was safe to take during pregnancy! x

ok hon.
i just freaked when it said on the label about pregnancy and breastfeeding.
tbh i wish i'd never had the damn thing pierced x

They have to tell you about every possible side effect hun but doesnt mean any of them are gonna happen!! But i know what you mean, but if its a case of infection getting worse or getting it cleared up i know what id chose! Hope it gets better soon hun x

The problem with medicines during pregnancy is they haven't been tested properly, so they don't know the risks... You may end up making an infection worse without antibiotics?

I'm not sure what I would do.. Probably trust the docs!

i think its cos the doc i saw wasnt my doctor, as its saturday.
but yeah my mom saaid an infection left untreated can get into your blood stream and turn into blood poisoning, which would b alot worse x

I have had to take these in my pregnancy, they are safe and doctors wouldn't prescribe them if they weren't, they have to put that warning on everything, try not to worry hun, you don't want the infection getting worse, hope it clears up soon, take care :hugs: XX

thanks so much guys that is reassuring to now two of you have taken this antibiotic and your babies are fine

Blood poisening is quite rare but what is a lot more common is that a low grade infection raises your temperature a little which is just enough to do harm to your baby if it is over a period of tme (as little as over 24 hours).

Or it lowers your allready lowered immune system to let something much nastier take hold.

Take the antibiotic.

ad on that note, the anti biotics start first thing tomorrow morning
(ive already eaten dinner so can't take the first lot tonight x

Well if I am anything to go by I underwent 2 breast operations and I didnt even know I was pregnant which followed 2 weeks courses of this antibiotic! and my babys just fine. x
Poor little mite was pumped with morphine and general anesthetic twice too! I dread to think! but I wasnt to know. I feel dead guilty about it though!

Glad you decided to take it.

Found this if you want to read some more, it has a bit about use in pregnancy and while breast feeding.

https://www2.netdoctor.co.uk/medicines/100001071.html

Doctors always say that there is always a slight risk when using any medicines in pregnancy, hell there is a small risk with folic acid! But then there is a small risk with almost everything in life, so it's just a case of doing the thing that will cause the least chance of problems.

Hope it clears up soon (but remember to finish the course) :hugs:

aww honey, no need to feel guilty, (Assuming your who i think you are:blush:) you had no possible way of knowing or even suspecting your pregnancy, so there is absolutely no need to feell guilty whatsoever.

thanks for the research angelstardust.
ive actually just taken the first tablet as ive been at work all night (have to be tken on as empty stomach as possible) all though i now have to wait an hour and then have a snack:dohh:
