Hello ladies. I was hoping we could get a thread started for those TTC with PCOS. It's a quite a journey TTC, but having PCOS adds a whole other element. So hopefully we can support each other, and give some insight. Let's get to know each other...

How old are you? How long have you been TTC? How long have you known you have PCOS? Any medication, life style changes since TTC? Any thing else you'd like to share?

I'll start...

I'm 20 years old and was diagnosed with PCOS at 19, although I had suspected something was wrong for a while before that...I got married in July, and started TTC in August. I'm not on any medication, I just try to eat healthy and take a multi-vitamin daily. My OH and I would love to conceive naturally, so we're going to give it a year before we seek medical intervention. FX's for :baby:!!!

I am 20 and have PCOS, was diagnosed right after my 19th bday and have been TTC for 2 years and 2 months. OH is 37 and we're getting married in just over a year. We have to use IUI because he had a vasectomy over ten years ago. Oh! And I take prenatal vitamins. Nice to meet you!

Well we're the same age and were diagnosed at the same age, what a coincidence lol. What are your cycles like? For the past 6 months mine have been about every 30 days, and prior to that I had an IUD so I didn't get AF for about 8 months. Are you ovulating on your own? I haven't been testing for ovulation, but if we don't conceive by next month I think I will. :)

Hi, I have pcos.

I was diagnosed a few years ago but I kinda knew I had it from my teens. I'm 25 and my hubby is 29, we've been together for 7.5 years and ttc our first child for 23 months.

I had a laparoscopy and ovarian drilling in August and finally conceived last month, but sadly miscarried 12 days ago

I've got another appointment with our fertility specialist in February to be prescribed Clomid. I'm hoping it happens soon. After ttc for 2 years I'm starting to lose hope..

Good luck ladies :dust:

Hi, i think i'll join in...
i'm 25, TTC 30 months, was diagnosed with PCOS at 16, though had is since period started at 12.5. i get crippling pain when AF comes and it lasts about 2 weeks with HEAVY bleeding, i have been known to bleed for 43 days heavy and solid (tmi). i have anaemia due to the witch and the PCOS grr. i am on metformin which is not helping as i get to sick with it, dr told me to persist with it and after 3 weeks of sickness and diarrhoea (tmi) was admitted to hospital and put on drip and told to stop the metformin. :( had 10 cycles of clomid, and each time had AF induced... lost 2 baby angels in 9 months  i am taking pregnacare conceive and going to try soy when AF shows up next whenever that may be!

i am a big girl and looking to have the gastric balloon done in the next few months to help loose weight (i fail miserably at diets - not much self control when it comes to comfort eating :( )

so that's me. prob a bit much info lol

and that is the baby making journey so far... next step for us is IVF getting referred on the 6th of jan so might be moving to the assisted TTC section :happydance:

:dust: to all the PCOS girls :D

RoxyRoo- I hope that Clomid helps, and I'm so sorry about your loss. I can understand you feeling like you're losing your patience, this will be my 4th month trying and it already feels like an eternity. But don't lose hope!

Jenbrem- that wasn't TMI at all, I really like to hear stories from those with PCOS, so I don't feel so isolated! I also had heavy bleeding, and it would come too often. I had an IUD for almost a year to treat that, and had no periods on it except the last 2 months. (June&July, out in August) And have had regular periods since then so I hope I'm ovulating. I'm very sorry for your losses also.

RoxyRoo & Jenbrem you are both very strong women.

I'm hoping we all get the best Christmas gift there is!

Hey , I have just been diagnosed last week, I'm 27, a had come off the pill in aug last year, fell preg by surprise in the oct, then mc the end of Jan this year, when I went for a follow up, my consultant said everything was fine, but it really hit me hard, and took quite awhile to get over it, we started ttc again in June, and I got preg in aug, and mc again in sept, I had gone to the doctors and they kept saying everything is fine, but they said they would test for pcos as I had a 'chain' of cysts around my right overy.. Got confirmed last week, the only symptom I have is long periodds, usually about 37 to 39 days, this one is going to be 50, but I think i am Just trying to get back in sync after my last mc...
I am worried this Is what caused my mc's but they said no and won't put me on any meds. As I can get preg,
I have done some research, and I am starting a low gi Diet and tring to cut out sugar, people with pcos seem to have an insolence resistance, so this kind of diet helps, also lemon juice in hot water half an hour before you eat helps suppress the amount of insulin you produce!
This is what I have learnt so far, but I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has good advice! Oh and I'm looking into cineman! It's ment to be very good also to put in your diet! Anyone hear this before?

cachuete- I don't understand why they won't put you on meds? I would understand not giving you Clomid because you ovulate on your own, but otherwise I don't see the logic in that. Doctor's for ya. I hope that your diet is just what your body needs to sustain your next healthy pregnancy. Do you know if you have a problem with insulin resistance? I'm sorry I can't give you any advice there, I don't have that problem and I don't know too much about it. I've never heard of cineman, what is it for? I'll have to google it:coffee: lol!

Hey, all my bloods were normal except for something called androstenedione, which was a bit higher than than normal, they said this is what causes the extra cysts in pcos and it is caused from having more insulin in your body, they said with pcos, they don't treat it as such, they just treat the effects, so if I had weight problems, or excess hair or ache, or couldn't get preg on my own, they would treat that... They also said that the raised androstenedione would not have caused the mc, they said people with pcos that have the higher testostone might be monitored more closely during preg...

Has anyone else heard anything like this?

Hey im 26 and was told i have pcos like 3 months ago, i suffer terribly with irregular periods but they did actually become regular after a while and now have gone alll wonky again!

Hi all *waves*
I'm 26 next week and was diagnosed about 3 years ago. I starting TTC in March and got my 1bfp in April, it was ectopic.
This is my first month TTC again and am waiting to ovulate.
I have tried to exercise more and am taking a previt at the moment, trying to eat healthy but nothing extreme, still have bad days.
Nice to meet other with PCOS and see if we can all get our bfps!

Hello Everyone! I just turned 29 December 10 and also have PCOS! I was told when I was 17 I had the symptoms, but in July 2010 saw a RE who fully diagnosed me with PCOS. My cycle was very irregular from the time I was 18 until about 2 years ago when I lost some weight. Now I may just bleed for 2-3 days very light. It was determined by my RE I do not ovulate. I started on a 10 day round of Provera in November and then did 5 days on Femara 5mg CD 3-7 and saw my RE CD 12 and he started me on FSH Injections with Bravelle 37.5 for 5 days and then I saw my RE yesterday did an u/s and saw that I have 3 leading follicles which are now at 12, 12.5 and 13. He upped my Bravelle dosage to 50 for 3 days and I will be back to see him on Tuesday for an u/s to make sure these 3 follicles are still the only leading 3!!! I hope this is the month!

Cacahuete,

I also do not know why your doctor will not give you any medicine. My doctor I forgot to mention in July 2010 when diagnosed with PCOS started me on Actos 15mg daily and Metformin 1000 mg daily once in the morning and once in the evening. With the increased androgen level yes it is very hard to maintain a pregnancy in females with PCOS. Without medicine yes you are at a higher risk for miscarriage and from what my RE has told me Metformin works extremely well to help prevent miscarriages. I think you should see about getting a second opinion.

Hi! I'm 29 (30 next Saturday) and was diagnosed with PCOS 4 years ago. My husband and I have been TTC for 3 months now (so not long compared to some).

I've got a Clearblue Fertility Monitor, and just got a peak today on CD 22, and have had 2 smiley opk's yesterday and today.
I'm just worried it's very late in my cycle (32 days) to ovulate, but we'll just have to wait and see I guess. Should just be glad I ovulate naturally anyway!

My doctor has told me I have to try for a year like anyone else before they will help, which I think is wrong when you have a known medical condition that affects fertility. But if we don't fall this cycle I shall be seeing a gynecologist privately in January.

Cacahuete,

I also do not know why your doctor will not give you any medicine. My doctor I forgot to mention in July 2010 when diagnosed with PCOS started me on Actos 15mg daily and Metformin 1000 mg daily once in the morning and once in the evening. Thanks for your help! I guess that's why I wasn't given any medication, all my testosterone levels are all normal, but I will ask again if I get preg to get my bloods done again to make sure!

Greygirl- Well we seem to have a similar approach. I'm hoping that OH's & my efforts pay off by being healthy and not that I just want a baby so bad I've convinced myself it'll work! lol we'll see though, I've read a lot of women say that they got pregnant after weight loss/a life style change. So good luck to us in our au naturale path :D

Stephy- I hope you give us an update Tuesday how things go!

Miss Sazra- I completely agree that if a woman who has a known case of PCOS wants treatment they should give it to her when she wants, not after a year. I mean, they tell people to wait a year to see if there are any complications...hello, you know now! why wait?! That's exciting that you're ovulating on your own, even if it's late in the cycle I have my FX'ed for you!

I'm 23 DX with PCOS at age 19. Currently not on any medication but I did manage to lose 40+ lbs which has helped. I had my first "normal" cycle (28 days) this past month and I'm hoping for a BFP. We had a MC at 5.5 weeks back in 2007 and just started trying again in October.

Dr. Martian I sure will. Did my last FSH injection of Bravelle today at 12:30! Looking forward to seeing my RE tomorrow to see if my lead 3 follicles are still in the lead and hopefully none of the other follicles I have have started growing.

Has anyone tried doing a Low GI Diet? I have read and been told it is great for women with PCOS especially if you have or are starting to show signs of insulin resistance. I am pretty healthy and have been following that diet pretty well but I do have the days where I want sugar and do indulge so not fully following it!!!

Since I am new to these types of forums I see a lot of people abbreviating words, is there a sight you can look at to see what some of them mean? :)

Has anyone else used femara with any type of FSH injections?
