I had my c section 16 days ago, and it appeared to be healing well. Then 2 days ago I noticed my tummy, not incision, was hot and red. I called the dr and he came and looked and said I had an infection and gave me antibiotics. Incision wasn't split or weeping. Then yesterday my incision started weeping yellow fluid, which doesn't smell. I panicked thinking the wound had split and had the dr out again. He looked and said it hadn't split, but was slowly secreting yellow fluid. I don't feel unwell or have a fever. He said the weeping is my body getting rid of the infection, but surely it would smell? For those who've had an infection, how long did it weep yellow fluid for once you started antibiotics? I'm on a 2 week course but am only on day 2 of them.

Sometimes after surgery people can develop a pocket of fluid, especially when there is a lot of generalized swelling, which if I remember correctly you did? The body isn't getting rid of the fluid fast enough so it will find another place to pool, usually near the surgical site (remember you have an inner incision and the outer one). When it gets large enough, it will find a way to get out ie your incision. I would guess that it isn't currently infected as it doesn't smell, but it definitely has the potential to get infected. The weeping will last until the pocket drains enough that your incision can heal up and your body starts to essentially suck up the fluid itself. Usually a few days to a week, but it varies.

Thank you. I'm in antibiotics so hopefully that would stop an infection if I don't have one. I just read the more fatty tissue u have the more fluid. Don't know how true that is but I have a lot of fatty tissue

Yes hun, that tends to be true because lipid tissue has less circulation than muscles or organs and the blood is what filters the extra fluid. Hope you're feeling better soon :)

I had an infection at 3 weeks PP. It was weeping yellow stuff, was very sore and red and was smelly. I think yhe antibiotics started to kick in after 2 days. Weeping had stopped at about a week. Sooooo mu h better now :)
