In particular, the ones who had a "courthouse wedding," what did you have to do to get married?

I've been trying to figure it out, but all I know so far is that I have to get a marriage license and then go somewhere to get married. :dohh:

My OH and I would like to get married before the baby is born, and now that he's finally got a job we can actually do it. But there's no way we're going to be able to afford a "real" wedding, so we just want to go to the courthouse.

So for any of you have done it, can you explain the process to me? Or your experiences/advice?:flower:

We went to our city hall together and purchased a marriage liscense, then asked his cousin, a judge to do it, and were married at a couthouse the next week :)

My OH and I solemnized our marriage by ourselves. It's really easy. You go to the DMV and get the marriage license and tell them you're solemnizing your own marriage, aka, you're doing it yourself. So you sign it and then you're married, lol! You take it down to the courthouse to make it official and that's it!

We did that in June but will be having a ceremony in a few years. :D

We had a small ceremony on the beach .... but as the ladies above me said, it's pretty easy! We paid $100.00 for our marriage license application, then we got married a week later, had some witnesses sign for us, then we just signed the rest that we had to & mailed it in. After it was notarized, they sent us the actual marriage license in the mail

Yeah, I know :( I guess it's a Florida thing .. we were so skint at the time too! :growlmad:

We decided on a Tuesday that we wanted to get married. On wednesday we went to the county clerks office at the courthouse & got our marriage license which was $32. In Virginia, you're not married until you have officiant marry you. So we spent Thursday getting things ready and finding an officiant. & on Friday we got married in a tiny lakeside ceremony. Our officiant charged $50 and was really nice (we used a justice of the peace). We plan to have a real ceremony in a few years.
