I had a forcep delivery 4 days ago. Gross as it is is it normal to have some kind of blood clots lost o sanitary pad? Im really bruised sore and uncomfy bt just wondered if its normal? X

It's completely normal to feel bruised and sore and it will be painful to sit for probably the first 2 weeks or so. I didn't have a forceps delivery, but I did have a 2nd degree tear and stitches. I would say it was painful to sit for probably 2 weeks and then still uncomfortable for another month or so. It takes time for your body to heal and recover. Just take it easy. Warm baths with lavender oil (no soap) helped a lot. I took 2 a day. You can also make pads with aloe vera and witch hazel (padsicles) which you can freeze and those help a lot too. If you're passing clots though, I'd just check in with your midwife. It can be pretty normal if they're small. If they're big or you feel unwell (like you're coming down with a flu), it could be an infection or retained placenta, so best to get checked. Otherwise, yes, all that sounds normal. It will take time just to get back to feeling like yourself.

Mention the clots to your midwife and she'll tell you what size should cause concern.
Hugs though.....it's rough recovering from all that. A rolled up hand towel under each bum cheek can help when you're sitting down. Xx

Yes, unfortunately normal. I had forceps with DD1 and an episiostomy.

It wasn't too brutal a delivery - I didn't have an extra tears.

Honestly I felt very bruised for weeks after and to feel totally normal down there is took about 6 months.

I didn't have a lot of clots with DD1 but did with DD2, mention it if they are bigger than a 50 pence piece or if you are getting gushes of blood after.

Thank you for your replies. Made me feel better and not so worried as it sounds like im healing normally :) baby leah is totally worth all this pain and worry though :) xx

I don't know about the clots, but I remember a few days after my daughter was born i went to get checked because i didn't think the amount of pain i was feeling was normal. I was sure i had some kind of infection. Turned out i was healing normally. Nobody really talks about how painful the first couple of weeks after childbirth can be.
